Rimactazid 450 is a combination medication used to treat tuberculosis (TB). It inhibits the growth of the bacteria responsible for the infection. This prescription medicine must be taken as directed by a doctor, preferably on an empty stomach at a consistent time each day.
Do not exceed the recommended dose, as it may harm your body. In case of a missed dose, take it as soon as you remember. Completing the full course of treatment is essential, even if symptoms improve, as stopping the medication early may reduce its effectiveness.
While it may take time for the medication to show results, contact your doctor if your symptoms worsen or persist. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, fever, dark-colored urine, sweating, or increased saliva production. Staying hydrated may help mitigate these effects. Seek immediate medical help for severe allergic reactions or worsening side effects.
Inform your doctor about any ongoing medications or underlying health conditions before starting Rimactazid 450. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use. Alcohol consumption should be avoided as it may cause drowsiness or interact with the drug. Your doctor may recommend laboratory tests to monitor the medication's effects during treatment.
Consuming alcohol while using Rimactazid 450 may lead to symptoms like flushing, rapid heartbeat, nausea, thirst, chest pain, and low blood pressure, also known as a Disulfiram reaction.
Rimactazid 450 might be unsafe during pregnancy. While limited human studies exist, animal studies indicate potential harm to the developing baby. Your doctor will carefully weigh the benefits against the risks before prescribing this medication.
Rimactazid 450 is considered safe for breastfeeding. Research indicates the drug does not significantly pass into breast milk and is unlikely to harm the infant.
Rimactazid 450 may cause side effects that impair your ability to drive, such as seizures, mental health disturbances, and optic neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerve that can result in vision loss).
Patients with kidney disease should use Rimactazid 450 with caution. Dose adjustments might be necessary, so consult your doctor for advice.
Rimactazid 450 should also be used cautiously in individuals with liver conditions. Dose modifications might be required, and it is not recommended for use in those with severe liver disease.
Treatment of Tuberculosis (TB).
Rimactazid 450 combines two antibiotics, Rifampicin and Isoniazid, to treat tuberculosis (TB). Rifampicin deactivates an essential bacterial enzyme (RNA polymerase), preventing TB bacteria from producing proteins and reproducing. Isoniazid inhibits the bacteria from forming a protective covering, effectively killing them and eradicating the infection.
Take Rimactazid 450 as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole without chewing or breaking it. It should be taken on an empty stomach and avoided alongside tyramine-rich foods (e.g., cheese, smoked fish, meats, and certain beers).
For tuberculosis:
Store below 30°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
