Rimactazid 450 combines two antibiotics, Rifampicin and Isoniazid, to treat tuberculosis (TB). Rifampicin deactivates an essential bacterial enzyme (RNA polymerase), preventing TB bacteria from producing proteins and reproducing. Isoniazid inhibits the bacteria from forming a protective covering, effectively killing them and eradicating the infection.

Take Rimactazid 450 as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole without chewing or breaking it. It should be taken on an empty stomach and avoided alongside tyramine-rich foods (e.g., cheese, smoked fish, meats, and certain beers).

- Rifampicin may reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives and lower serum levels of anticonvulsants, antiarrhythmics, oral anticoagulants, antifungals, and several other drugs.
- Isoniazid may inhibit the metabolism of anticonvulsants, benzodiazepines, and theophylline. It may also enhance the CNS effects of drugs like cycloserine and disulfiram.
- Combining rifampicin with halothane increases the risk of hepatotoxicity.
- Concurrent use of isoniazid with saquinavir/ritonavir may lead to severe liver toxicity.

For tuberculosis:
- Adults weighing <50 kg: 3 tablets of 150 mg/100 mg daily.
- Adults weighing >50 kg: 2 tablets of 300 mg/150 mg daily.
- Hepatic impairment: Maximum dose of 8 mg/kg daily.
✔️ Do not use Rimactazid 450 if you have the following:
- Hypersensitivity to rifamycins, isoniazid, or other excipients.
- A history of drug-induced hepatitis.
- Acute liver diseases.
- Peripheral neuritis.

- Monitor for liver function, especially in individuals with alcohol dependency, chronic liver disease, or severe renal dysfunction.
- Use cautiously in patients over 35, those on chronic medications, or with a history of discontinuing isoniazid.
- Extra care is required for patients with peripheral neuropathy, pregnant women, injection drug users, and those with HIV.
