✔️ Side Effects

Possible side effects include:

• Common: Nausea, dyspepsia, vomiting, abdominal pain
• Uncommon: Rash, pruritus, dizziness, diarrhea
• Rare: Vision problems, tinnitus, or peptic ulcers
• Unknown frequency: Hypertension, heart failure, liver dysfunction, renal impairment, and severe skin reactions

✔️ Dosage

• For anti-inflammatory purposes: Start with 150–300 mg daily, divided into three doses. Maintenance dosage ranges from 100–200 mg daily, which may be administered twice daily or as a single daily dose. The maximum daily dose is 300 mg.
• For pain and primary dysmenorrhea: Take 25–50 mg every 6–8 hours as needed, not exceeding 300 mg per day.

✔️ Administration

Oral forms should be taken with fluids, preferably alongside food.

✔️ Drug Interactions

Not recommended:

• NSAIDs (including COX-2 inhibitors) and high-dose salicylates increase the risk of gastrointestinal ulcers and bleeding.
• Anticoagulants, heparin, and platelet aggregation inhibitors increase bleeding risk.
• Lithium co-administration may raise lithium plasma levels to toxic levels.
• Methotrexate (doses >15 mg/week) may increase the risk of hematologic toxicity.

✔️ Use with precautions:

• Drugs promoting hyperkalemia (e.g., potassium salts, ACE inhibitors, diuretics) increase hyperkalemia risk.
• Corticosteroids increase the risk of gastrointestinal complications.
• Diuretics and ACE inhibitors may compromise renal function.
• Cyclosporine and tacrolimus may increase nephrotoxicity.

✔️ Profenid-E should not be used in:

• Patients with hypersensitivity to ketoprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs
• Severe heart failure, liver impairment, or kidney impairment
• Active or history of peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, or perforation
• During the third trimester of pregnancy
• Patients with rectal conditions (for rectal formulations)

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• During the first and second trimesters, the use of ketoprofen should be avoided unless necessary.
• Contraindicated during the third trimester due to potential fetal risks.
• Not recommended during breastfeeding.

✔️ Precautions

• Use cautiously in patients with gastrointestinal disorders, renal or hepatic impairment, hypertension, or heart failure.
• Monitor renal function in elderly patients or those with dehydration.
• NSAIDs may mask signs of infection, such as fever.
• May impair female fertility; withdrawal is recommended for women trying to conceive.
