Methomol 500mg Tablet works by blocking nerve impulses (or pain sensations) that are sent to your brain, spinal and supraspinal pathways. Hence healing the pain and spasms of muscle cells.
Methomol is prescribed as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy, and other treatments to alleviate discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions. The exact mode of action of Methomol is unclear but may be linked to its sedative properties. It does not directly relax tight skeletal muscles in humans
The mechanism of Methocarbamol in humans is not well understood, but it is believed to work through general Central Nervous System (CNS) depression. It has no direct impact on the contractile mechanism of striated muscle, the motor end plate, or the nerve fiber

Methomol may reduce the effect of Pyridostigmine Bromide. Therefore, it should be used cautiously in patients with myasthenia gravis who are receiving anticholinesterase agents.
Drug/Laboratory Test Interactions: Methomol can cause color interference in certain tests for 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) using nitrosonaphthol reagent and in urinary vanillylmandelic acid (VMA) tests using the Gitlow method.
Methocarbamol is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Methocarbamol or any components of the tablet.
Pregnancy Category C. Animal reproduction studies have not been conducted with Methocarbamol. It is also unknown whether Methocarbamol can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or affect reproductive capacity. Methocarbamol should be given to a pregnant woman only if necessary. Methocarbamol and/or its metabolites are excreted in the milk of dogs; however, it is unknown whether Methocarbamol or its metabolites are excreted in human milk. Since many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when Methocarbamol is administered to a nursing woman.
Patients should be cautioned that Methomol may cause drowsiness or dizziness, impairing their ability to operate motor vehicles or machinery due to its CNS-depressant effects. Combined effects with alcohol and other CNS depressants should be considered. Safe use during pregnancy has not been established. Reports indicate fetal and congenital abnormalities following in-utero exposure. Therefore, Methomol should not be used in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh possible risks.
Protect from light and store below 30°C. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children.
