✔️ Uses of Hepamarin Capsule

Hepamarin (Milk thistle) is indicated for the treatment and prevention of:

• Liver disease (non-alcoholic & alcoholic)
• Liver cirrhosis (non-alcoholic & alcoholic)
• Infectious hepatitis
• Drug-induced hepatitis
• Liver disease secondary to diabetes mellitus
• Toxicity of narcotics
• Fatty liver
• Jaundice

✔️ Side Effects of Hepamarin Capsule

Well tolerated in the recommended dose. Occasionally, a mild laxative effect may be observed.

✔️ Pharmacology:

Silymarin is a well-known hepatoprotective agent. It stimulates RNA polymerase-A, enhances protein synthesis, and aids in the regeneration and repair of liver cells. Silymarin has antioxidant properties, preventing toxic substances from penetrating liver cells and protecting hepatocytes from various forms of damage. It also exhibits anti-lipid peroxidative, antifibrotic, anti-inflammatory, membrane stabilizing, immunomodulatory, and liver-regenerating effects.

✔️ Dosage & Administration:

For adults, take 1 to 3 capsules 2 to 3 times daily, or continue medication until symptom relief under the guidance of a physician. Not recommended for children without a physician's advice.

✔️ Interaction:

These are some potential interactions involving milk thistle:

• Cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) substrates: Milk thistle may affect the enzyme CYP2C9, altering the levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme, such as diazepam (Valium) and warfarin (Jantoven).
• Diabetes medications: Milk thistle might lower blood sugar levels, particularly in individuals with type 2 diabetes. If you're taking diabetes medications, monitor your blood sugar levels closely and consult your doctor before using milk thistle supplements.
• Raloxifene (Evista): Milk thistle could potentially affect the metabolism of raloxifene, an osteoporosis medication, leading to higher levels of the drug in your bloodstream. Consult your doctor before combining milk thistle with raloxifene.
• Simeprevir: Combining milk thistle with simeprevir, a medication used to treat hepatitis C, may increase simeprevir levels in the blood plasma. Avoid using milk thistle and simeprevir together without medical supervision.
• Sirolimus (Rapamune): Milk thistle might influence the metabolism of sirolimus, an immunosuppressant medication. Discuss the potential interaction with your doctor before taking milk thistle if you're also using sirolimus.

✔️ Contraindications:

Hepamarin is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to silymarin.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation:

No experience is available regarding the use of Silymarin 70 mg or 140 mg during pregnancy and lactation. Use caution and follow the physician's advice if needed.
