Piperacillin: Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to defective cell walls and bacterial death.
Tazobactam: Blocks β-lactamase enzymes that usually protect bacteria from antibiotics, thereby extending piperacillin’s activity.
Together, they provide broad-spectrum antibacterial coverage against β-lactamase–producing pathogens.
Inform your doctor if you are on any antibiotics, anticoagulants, or methotrexate before starting therapy.
Tell your healthcare provider before undergoing lab tests, as this drug may interfere with results.
Do not self-medicate or discontinue abruptly—always complete the prescribed course.
Uncommon: Low blood pressure, phlebitis, joint pain, chills, lab abnormalities, and breathing difficulty.
Rare but serious: Severe skin reactions (SJS, TEN, DRESS, AGEP), angioedema, jaundice, convulsions, agranulocytosis, C. difficile colitis.
Given intravenously (IV) by a doctor or nurse.
Dosage and treatment duration depend on age, body weight, infection type, and severity.
