Flucloxacillin is a penicillinase-resistant antibiotic effective against Gram-positive bacteria but has minimal effect on Gram-negative organisms. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, preventing bacterial growth and replication.

✔️ Dosage and Administration
Oral Dosage:
🔹 Adults – 250 mg four times daily; may be doubled for severe infections. In osteomyelitis and endocarditis, doses up to 8 g per day may be used in 6–8 hour intervals.
🔹 Children (2-10 years) – Half the adult dose.
🔹 Children (under 2 years) – Quarter of the adult dose.
✔ Severe renal impairment (Creatinine clearance <10 ml/min) – Requires dose adjustment or extended dosing intervals.
Parenteral Dosage:
🔹 Adults & Elderly:
- Intramuscular injection – 250 mg four times daily.
- Intravenous injection – 250 mg to 1 g four times daily (slow IV over 3–4 minutes or via infusion).
- For severe infections – Dosages may be doubled (up to 8 g per day in endocarditis or osteomyelitis).
🔹 Children:
- 2-10 years – Half of the adult dose.
- Under 2 years – Quarter of the adult dose.
💊 Oral doses should be taken 1 hour before meals.
