• Valsartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It works by blocking the hormone angiotensin thereby relaxing blood vessels. This allows the blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently.
• Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that removes extra water and certain electrolytes from the body. Over time it also relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow.

✔️ Side Effects of Valsartil 160/12.5mg Tablet

• Common: Headache, dizziness, fatigue, abdominal pain, cough, diarrhea, nausea.
• Others: Hyperkalemia, reduced renal function, allergic reactions, dyspnea, constipation, back pain, muscle cramps, rash, anxiety, insomnia, vertigo, hypotension.

✔️ Pharmacology

• Valsartan: An angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents angiotensin II from binding to its receptors, causing blood vessels to relax and lower blood pressure.
  • Mechanism: Blocks angiotensin II AT1 receptors, leading to vasodilation.
  • Selectivity: 20,000 times more affinity for AT1 receptors than AT2 receptors.
• Hydrochlorothiazide: A thiazide diuretic that increases the excretion of sodium and chloride, reducing plasma volume and consequently lowering blood pressure.
  • Mechanism: Increases renal excretion of sodium and chloride, leading to decreased plasma volume and lower blood pressure.
  • Effects: Increases plasma renin, aldosterone secretion, and urinary potassium loss, which can be counteracted by ARBs.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Valsartil 160/12.5mg Tablet

• For Hypertension: Patients not controlled with monotherapy should switch to Valsartil Plus once daily.
  • Max Dose: Valsartan 320 mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg.
• Elderly: No dosage adjustment is needed.
• Pediatric Use: Not established.
• Renal Impairment: Use regular regimens if creatinine clearance is>30 ml/min; use loop diuretics if clearance is lower.
• Hepatic Impairment: Use caution and monitor closely.

Valsartan:
