Teana Plus 40 is a combination of Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide, which work together to effectively lower blood pressure.

Telmisartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) that blocks the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict. By blocking this hormone, Telmisartan helps relax the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more smoothly and reducing blood pressure.

Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic (water pill) that helps remove excess water and salt from the body. Over time, it also relaxes blood vessels, improving blood flow and helping to lower blood pressure.

✔️ How to Use Teana Plus 40:

• Take Teana Plus 40 exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, crush, or break it.
• Teana Plus 40 can be taken with or without food. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day for consistency.

✔️ Words of Advice:

• Teana Plus 40 may lead to dehydration, so make sure to drink plenty of fluids. If you experience extreme thirst, very dry mouth, or muscle weakness, inform your doctor.
• This medication may cause dizziness. To avoid this, rise slowly when transitioning from sitting or lying down to standing.
• Teana Plus 40 is not safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do not use it unless directed by your doctor.

✔️ Overdose Effects:

Signs of overdose include low blood pressure, dizziness, tachycardia, bradycardia, electrolyte imbalances (e.g., hypokalemia, hyponatremia), and dehydration. Telmisartan is not removed by hemodialysis.

• Dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness, flushing, back pain, nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain.
• Other adverse effects include fever, chest pain, insomnia, muscle pain, liver enzyme elevations, and allergic reactions.

• Starting Dose: If blood pressure is not controlled with Telmisartan 80 mg alone, the combination of Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide 80 mg/12.5 mg once daily is recommended. If needed, the dose can be increased to 160 mg/25 mg after 2 to 4 weeks.
• Alternative: For patients who experience hypokalemia on Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once daily, the starting dose of Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide 80 mg/12.5 mg once daily is advised, with possible titration up to 160 mg/25 mg.Pediatric Use: Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established.
• Geriatric Use: Elderly patients may require a lower starting dose, especially if they have reduced hepatic, renal, or cardiac function.
• Hepatic Impairment: Patients with biliary or severe liver disorders should be monitored closely when starting treatment.
• Renal Impairment: Avoid patients with severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 ml/min). No dose adjustment is needed for mild or moderate renal impairment.

✔️ Drug Interactions:

Be cautious when taking Teana Plus with medications like aliskiren, digoxin, lithium, other blood pressure drugs, NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen), corticosteroids, ACE inhibitors (e.g., enalapril), and other angiotensin II receptor blockers. Teana Plus may interfere with certain lab tests, potentially leading to false results.

✔️ Contraindications:

Do not use Teana Plus if you are allergic to Telmisartan, Hydrochlorothiazide, or any other ingredient in the drug. It should not be co-administered with Aliskiren in diabetic patients.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation:

• Pregnancy Category D: Use during the second and third trimesters can impair fetal kidney function, leading to serious complications. Discontinue if pregnancy is detected.
• Lactation: It is unknown if Telmisartan passes into human milk, but it has been found in rat milk. Hydrochlorothiazide also appears in human milk. Consider discontinuing breastfeeding or the drug based on the mother's needs.

• Inform your doctor if you have a history of kidney or liver disease, dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, gout, or lupus.
• Diabetic patients should monitor their blood sugar levels.
• Consult your doctor before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium.
• This medication may cause dizziness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.
