✔️ Directions for Use: Gavisus DX

• Swallow the tablet or capsule whole with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the medication, especially if you are taking an extended-release version.
• Try to take your dose at the same time every day to keep a steady amount of the medicine in your body.
• You can take this medicine with or without food, but be consistent with whichever method you choose.
• Always follow your doctor's exact instructions regarding how to take this medication. Never change your dose or stop taking it suddenly without consulting your healthcare provider first.

✔️ Interaction

Gavisus DX may interfere with the absorption of certain medications. Allow at least a 2-hour interval between Gavisus DX and the following drugs:

• Tetracycline antibiotics
• Fluoroquinolone antibiotics
• Digoxin
• Iron supplements
• Ketoconazole
• Neuroleptic medications
• Thyroid hormone replacement therapy
• Penicillamine
• Beta-blockers (such as atenolol, metoprolol, and propranolol)
• Glucocorticoids
• Chloroquine
• Bisphosphonates
• Estramustine

Oral Suspension

Adults and Children Over 12 Years

• 10–20 mL after meals and at bedtime
• Up to four times daily

Children 6–12 Years

• 5–10 mL after meals and at bedtime
• Up to four times daily

Children Under 6 Years

• Not recommended unless advised by a physician

Elderly

• No dosage adjustment required

Chewable Tablets

Adults and Children Aged 12 Years and Older

• Chew 2–4 tablets thoroughly after meals and at bedtime
• Up to four times daily

Children Under 12 Years

• Use only under medical supervision

Special Populations

Liver Impairment

• No dose adjustment necessary

Kidney Impairment

• Use with caution in patients requiring a strict low-sodium diet

✔️ How Gavisus DX Works

Gavisus DX provides relief through two complementary mechanisms:

1. Neutralization of Stomach Acid

Calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate act as antacids, rapidly reducing excess stomach acid and relieving symptoms such as heartburn and indigestion.

2. Formation of a Protective Raft

Sodium alginate reacts with stomach acid to form a gel-like floating barrier with a near-neutral pH. This protective layer sits on top of the stomach contents and helps:

• Prevent acid reflux into the esophagus
• Reduce irritation from stomach acid
• Protect against pepsin and bile
• Provide relief for up to four hours

In severe reflux, the protective raft may move into the esophagus and help soothe inflamed tissues directly.

✔️ Do not use Gavisus DX if you have:

• Known allergy or hypersensitivity to sodium alginate, calcium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, or any other ingredient in the product

✔️ Precautions and Warnings

Sodium Content

Each 20 mL dose contains approximately 254.5 mg of sodium. This should be considered in patients on sodium-restricted diets, especially those with:

• Congestive heart failure
• Kidney disease
• Hypertension requiring salt restriction

Calcium Content

Each 20 mL dose contains approximately 260 mg of calcium.

Use cautiously in patients with:

• Hypercalcemia
• Nephrocalcinosis
• Recurrent calcium-containing kidney stones

Additional Precautions

• Treatment of children under 12 years should generally occur only under medical supervision.
• Long-term or persistent symptoms lasting more than 7 days require medical evaluation.
• Gavisus DX may mask symptoms of more serious gastrointestinal disorders.
• Avoid use in patients with severe renal impairment or hypophosphatemia unless advised by a physician.
• Chewable tablets contain aspartame and should not be used by individuals with phenylketonuria (PKU).
• Allergic reactions may occur in sensitive individuals.

✔️ Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Pregnancy

Studies involving large numbers of pregnant women have not shown harmful effects on the mother or unborn baby. Gavisus DX may be used during pregnancy when clinically indicated.

Breastfeeding

No harmful effects have been reported in breastfed infants whose mothers used this medication. It is considered compatible with breastfeeding.

Fertility

Available data suggest that sodium alginate and the other ingredients do not adversely affect fertility or reproduction.
