Moodnor Tablet falls under a category of medications called tricyclic antidepressants. It is used in the treatment of certain mental/ mood disorders. This medication is primarily used for the treatment of depression, bedwetting, pain due to nerve damage

✔️ Pharmacology

Amitriptyline:

• Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA).
• It inhibits the reuptake of neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and norepinephrine, in the central nervous system (CNS).
• By blocking the reuptake, amitriptyline increases the levels of these neurotransmitters in the synaptic cleft, enhancing their effects.

Nortriptyline:

• Nortriptyline is a metabolite of amitriptyline.
• It is also a tricyclic antidepressant.
• Similar to amitriptyline, nortriptyline inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, leading to increased concentrations of these neurotransmitters in the CNS.

So, both amitriptyline and nortriptyline function by affecting the reuptake of neurotransmitters, and nortriptyline is derived from the metabolism of amitriptyline.

Depression:

• Adults: Begin with a low dose, then increase as necessary to 75-100 mg daily in divided doses or as a single dose. The maximum recommended daily dose is 150 mg.
• Adolescents & Elderly: 30-50 mg daily in divided doses.
• Children: Not recommended for depression.

Nocturnal Enuresis (Bedwetting):

• Child (7 years): 10 mg.
• Child (8-11 years): 10-20 mg.
• Child (Over 11 years): 25-35 mg, 30 minutes before bedtime.
• The maximum period of treatment (including gradual withdrawal) is 3 months.
• Full physical examination and ECG are recommended before further courses of treatment.
