How does Bukof-D Syrup 100ml work?

Butamirate acts centrally as a cough suppressant, particularly in non-productive cough.

Generally well-tolerated, with rare occurrences of adverse reactions such as dermatitis, nausea, diarrhea, and vertigo, which resolve upon dose adjustment or discontinuation.

Pharmacology

• Butamirate Citrate acts by directly suppressing the cough center in the brain.
• Non-sedating and non-toxic, not chemically or pharmacologically related to opium alkaloids.
• Rapid and complete absorption after oral administration, with sustained-release formulations reaching peak concentration in 9 hours.
• Active metabolites also possess antitussive properties.

Dosage & Administration of Bukof-D Syrup 100ml

Adult Dose:

• Syrup: Adults: 15 ml 4 times daily; Adolescents: 15 ml 4 times daily.

Child Dose:

• Syrup: Children (6-12 years): 10 ml 3 times daily, Children (3-6 years): 5 ml 3 times daily.

Interaction

Concomitant use with expectorants may lead to mucous retention in the respiratory system, increasing the risk of bronchospasm and airway infection.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the medication.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Avoid during the first trimester of pregnancy; caution is advised for the remainder of pregnancy.
• Use during breastfeeding should be carefully considered due to a lack of evidence regarding the removal of active ingredients in breast milk.

Precautions & Warnings

• Avoid concomitant use with expectorants to prevent mucus retention and associated risks.
• Seek medical attention if the cough persists beyond 7 days (or 3 days in children under 12).
