Feminor 5 Tablet

Feminor contains Norethisterone, a synthetic progestogen that mimics the effects of the natural hormone progesterone. It suppresses ovulation more effectively than progesterone and has mild estrogenic and androgenic activity. After oral administration, it is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, remains active for at least 24 hours, and is primarily eliminated through the urine.

Dosage & Administration

Feminor is taken orally and is not intended for use in children. The dosage depends on the condition being treated:

• Dysfunctional uterine bleeding: One tablet three times daily for 10 days. Bleeding usually stops within 1–3 days, and withdrawal bleeding typically occurs 2–4 days after treatment ends.
• Prevention of recurrent dysfunctional bleeding: One tablet twice daily from day 19 to day 26 of the menstrual cycle.
• Premenstrual syndrome (PMS): Two to three tablets daily from day 19 to day 26 of the cycle for several consecutive cycles.
• Postponement of menstruation: One tablet three times daily, starting 3 days before the expected period. Menstruation usually resumes 2–3 days after stopping treatment.
• Endometriosis: Begin on day 5 of the menstrual cycle with two tablets daily. The dose may be increased if breakthrough bleeding occurs. Treatment is generally continued for 4–6 months or longer if required.
• Menorrhagia: One tablet two to three times daily from day 19 to day 26 of the menstrual cycle.

Drug Interactions

Certain medicines that increase liver enzyme activity may reduce the effectiveness of Feminor, including:

• Phenytoin
• Barbiturates
• Primidone
• Carbamazepine
• Rifampicin
• Griseofulvin
• Oxcarbazepine
• Rifabutin

Contraindications

Do not use Feminor if you have:

• Pregnancy
• Severe liver disease
• Dubin-Johnson syndrome
• Rotor syndrome
• Current or previous liver tumors
• A history of pregnancy-related jaundice, severe itching, or herpes gestationis
• Active thromboembolic disease
• Allergy to Norethisterone or any of the tablet's ingredients

Side Effects

Side effects are usually more noticeable during the early stages of treatment and often improve over time. They may include:

• Nausea
• Headache or migraine
• Swelling (edema)
• Visual disturbances
• Shortness of breath
• Skin reactions such as rash, itching, or hives

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

• Pregnancy: Feminor must not be used during pregnancy.
• Breastfeeding: It is also not recommended while breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

Use Feminor with caution in patients with:

• A history of blood clots or thromboembolic disorders
• Severe diabetes with vascular complications
• Sickle cell anemia

Rarely, hormonal therapy may be associated with liver tumors. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe upper abdominal pain, enlarged liver, or signs of internal bleeding.

Patients with diabetes should have their blood glucose monitored regularly, as Norethisterone may affect carbohydrate metabolism.

Stop Feminor immediately and consult your doctor if you experience:

• A new or unusually severe migraine
• Sudden vision or hearing problems
• Symptoms of blood clots, such as chest pain, leg swelling, or difficulty breathing
• Jaundice, hepatitis, or severe itching
• A significant rise in blood pressure
• Pregnancy
• Planned surgery or prolonged immobilization (treatment should generally be stopped about 6 weeks beforehand)

Overdose

Serious overdose is uncommon. There is no specific antidote, and treatment is generally supportive based on symptoms.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
