Indications
Levocetirizine is used to treat the signs and symptoms of allergic conditions like chronic idiopathic urticaria, seasonal allergic rhinitis, and chronic allergic rhinitis.
Pharmacology
This formulation contains dihydrochloride of levocetirizine. Levocetirizine is the active (Levo) isomer of cetirizine. It is a powerfully effective and well-tolerated new nonsedating antihistamine with strong antiallergic properties. Compared to cetirizine, it has a double affinity for H1 receptors. Levocetirizine has a quick and long-lasting action that makes once-daily dosing possible.
Dosage & Administration
Interaction
There are no known medication interactions with levocetirizine.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to levocetirizine, cetirizine, hydroxyzine, or its parent molecule. Levocetirizine should not be given to patients who have a significant renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 10 ml/min).
Side Effects
Levocetirizine is generally well tolerated. A few adverse effects, including headache, dry mouth, tiredness, and skin rash, have been recorded seldom.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Category B Pregnancy. In pregnant women, there are no appropriate and well-controlled trials. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, levocetirizine should be administered only when obviously necessary during pregnancy. Because levocetirizine is secreted in breast milk, it is not advised that nursing women use it.
Precautions & Warnings
Patients with epilepsy and those at risk of convulsions and Renal dysfunction. Lactation and pregnancy.
Storage Conditions
Store in a dry location at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of direct sunlight.
