Elaxtin 20 is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms, including itching, swelling, skin rashes, and other allergic reactions. It contains bilastine, which works by blocking histamine, a substance responsible for triggering allergy symptoms.
Take Elaxtin 20 according to your doctor's instructions. It is generally taken on an empty stomach, either one hour before food or two hours after a meal. The recommended dose and duration depend on your age, condition, and response to treatment. Swallow the tablet whole without crushing, chewing, or breaking it.
Common side effects include headache and drowsiness, although bilastine is generally less likely to cause sleepiness than some older antihistamines. If side effects persist or become troublesome, consult your doctor. Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience dizziness or drowsiness.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other medicines. Avoid fruit juice, including grapefruit, orange, and apple juice, around the time of taking this medicine, as it may reduce the absorption of bilastine. Drink adequate fluids during treatment.

There is no or a limited amount of data on the use of Bilastine in pregnant women. Animal studies do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects with respect to reproductive toxicity, parturition, or postnatal development. As a precautionary measure, it is preferable to avoid the use of Bilastine during pregnancy. The excretion of Bilastine in milk has not been studied in humans. A decision must be made taking into account the benefit of breast-feeding for the child and the benefit of Bilastine therapy for the mother.
Treatment with Elaxtin 20 mg does not affect driving performance. However, patients should be informed that, very rarely, some people experience drowsiness, which may affect their ability to drive or use machines. In clinical trials, elderly patients (≥65 years) showed no difference in efficacy or safety with respect to younger patients. The maximum plasma concentration of Elaxtin after administration of 20 mg in patients with severe renal impairment is below the safety threshold for the most common adverse effects and cardiac or CNS safety. No dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with renal impairment. Elaxtin is not metabolized in humans. Since renal elimination is the major excretion route, biliary excretion is expected to be only marginally involved in the elimination of Elaxtin. Changes in liver function are not expected to have a clinically relevant influence.
Keep below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
