Biltex 20 works by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical released during allergic reactions. By selectively blocking H1 receptors, bilastine helps reduce symptoms such as itching, sneezing, runny or blocked nose, skin rashes, swelling, and watery or red eyes.

Biltex 20 is an antihistamine used to relieve symptoms associated with allergic conditions, including allergic rhinitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, and urticaria (hives). It helps reduce symptoms such as itching, sneezing, runny or blocked nose, skin rashes, swelling, and red or watery eyes.
Biltex 20 should be taken exactly as directed by a doctor. The tablet should be taken on an empty stomach, either 1 hour before or 2 hours after food, as food may reduce the absorption of bilastine. For the best results, take it at approximately the same time each day.
Bilastine is a selective histamine H1-receptor antagonist with a long-lasting antiallergic effect. During an allergic reaction, mast cells release histamine and other inflammatory substances. Bilastine binds selectively to H1 receptors and prevents histamine from producing allergic symptoms.
Bilastine has a high affinity for H1 receptors and shows little or no clinically relevant affinity for many other receptors, including muscarinic, serotonergic, dopaminergic, noradrenergic, and other histamine receptor subtypes.
Bilastine is not significantly metabolized in humans. It is eliminated primarily through the feces, with a smaller proportion excreted through the urine.
The usual dose is:
20 mg (1 tablet) once daily
It is used for the symptomatic relief of allergic rhinitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, and urticaria.
The recommended dose is generally 10 mg once daily, using an age-appropriate bilastine formulation such as a mouth-dissolving tablet, when prescribed.
An oral pediatric formulation may be prescribed at a dose of 4 mL once daily, depending on the specific formulation and the child's age and weight.
Bilastine should not be used in children below 2 years of age unless specifically advised by a specialist.
The safety and effectiveness of bilastine in children below 2 years of age have not been established. There is limited clinical experience in children between 2 and 5 years of age; use should therefore follow the advice of a healthcare professional.
Clinical studies have not shown significant differences in efficacy or safety between elderly patients and younger adults.
Available data indicate that dose adjustment is generally not required solely on the basis of renal impairment. However, patients with significant kidney disease should consult their doctor, particularly if they are taking medicines that may increase bilastine concentrations.
Bilastine is not significantly metabolized by the liver, and clinically important changes in liver function are not generally expected to significantly affect its elimination.
Biltex 20 is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to bilastine or any of the ingredients in the formulation.
There is limited information regarding the use of bilastine during pregnancy. Animal studies have not demonstrated direct or indirect harmful effects on reproductive development.
As a precaution, bilastine should preferably be avoided during pregnancy unless the potential benefits outweigh the possible risks and its use is recommended by a healthcare professional.
It is not fully established whether bilastine is excreted into human breast milk. A decision to use Biltex during breastfeeding should consider the benefits of breastfeeding for the infant and the potential benefit of treatment for the mother.
Although these medicines can increase bilastine exposure, clinical studies have not demonstrated a significant effect on its overall safety profile when used appropriately.
Bilastine has not been shown to significantly enhance the central nervous system depressant effects of alcohol or lorazepam at recommended doses. However, individual sensitivity may vary.
