Cosmotrin is a form of vitamin A. When applied on the skin, it reduces oil production in the skin, replenishes acne-prone skin, and helps keep your pores open.
For topical application within the treatment of skin break-out vulgaris in which comedones, papules, and pustules prevail.
While the exact mechanism of action of Tretinoin is not fully understood, current evidence suggests that when applied topically, Tretinoin reduces the adhesion between cells in the follicular epithelium, leading to a decrease in the formation of micro-comedones. Additionally, Tretinoin stimulates cellular division and increases the turnover of follicular epithelial cells, which helps eliminate comedones, papules, and pustules.
Tretinoin is contraindicated for individuals who have a profound sensitivity or allergy to any of the ingredients present in the cream. Furthermore, this cream should not be used by patients who have a personal or family history of cutaneous epithelioma, which refers to skin cancer. If you fall into any of these categories, it is important to avoid using Tretinoin and consult with your healthcare professional for alternative treatment options.
There is insufficient evidence regarding the safety of topically applied Tretinoin during human pregnancy. However, Tretinoin has been associated with teratogenicity (causing birth defects) when used systemically (internally). Therefore, it is recommended to avoid using the cream during pregnancy and lactation. It is important to consult with your healthcare professional for alternative treatments or precautionary measures if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
