Empaglif-M 5/500 Tablet is a prescription medicine used alongside diet and exercise to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when additional treatment is required.
It combines empagliflozin and metformin hydrochloride to help manage blood glucose levels. It may be prescribed alone or with other antidiabetic medicines, depending on the patient's condition and treatment plan.
Overdose
Overdose may cause gastrointestinal symptoms, dehydration or other serious complications. Excessive metformin exposure can cause lactic acidosis, which is a medical emergency. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose when remembered unless it is nearly time for the next scheduled dose. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue the regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.
Empagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It reduces glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, allowing excess glucose to be eliminated through urine.
Metformin hydrochloride is a biguanide antidiabetic medicine. It reduces glucose production in the liver, decreases intestinal glucose absorption and improves insulin sensitivity, helping the body use glucose more effectively.
Together, these ingredients help lower blood glucose levels through complementary mechanisms.
The dose and frequency must be determined by the physician according to the patient's blood glucose levels, kidney function, current treatment and the formulation prescribed.
Empagliflozin is generally not recommended during pregnancy, particularly during the second and third trimesters, because of potential risks to fetal kidney development. Consult a healthcare professional promptly if pregnancy occurs or is planned.
Use during breastfeeding is generally not recommended. A healthcare professional should select an appropriate treatment for diabetes during pregnancy or lactation.
Store in the original packaging in a dry place, protected from excessive heat, moisture and direct light. Keep out of the reach of children. Follow the storage instructions printed on the product packaging.
