Pharmacology

Cefixime is a third-generation oral semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic. It is bactericidal against a variety of gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens at easily accessible plasma concentrations. By interfering with the development of the bacterial cell wall, it destroys bacteria. It is particularly stable when the beta-lactamase enzyme is present. Many organisms that are resistant to penicillins and certain cephalosporins may be vulnerable to Cefixime because of the presence of beta-lactamases. Dosage & Administration of Rofixim 200mg Capsule

• For adults and children over 12 years old, the recommended daily dose is 200-400 mg, taken once or divided into two doses. If treating uncomplicated cervical/urethral gonococcal infections, a single dose of 400 mg is recommended.
• For children aged 6 months or older, the usual dose is 8 mg/kg/day given once or divided into two doses. The recommended daily doses for different age groups are as follows: 75 mg for children aged 6 months to 1 year, 100 mg for children aged 1-4 years, 200 mg for children aged 5-10 years, and 300 mg for children aged 11-12 years. In the case of typhoid fever, the dosage should be 10 mg/kg/day for 14 days.
• It is not known whether Cefixime is safe or effective for children under 6 months of age.

Interaction

Rofixim 200mg Capsule may interact with certain vaccines (BCG, cholera vaccine, typhoid vaccine), anticoagulant medications (warfarin), and anticonvulsant medications (carbamazepine).

Rofixim 200mg Capsule may interact with disease conditions, including colitis (inflammation of the colon's inner lining), renal dysfunction, liver disease, and seizure disorders.

Contraindications

Patients with known hypersensitivity cephalosporin group of drugs.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Use in Pregnancy: Cefixime should be used during pregnancy only if needed.

Nursing Mothers: Consideration should be given to discontinuing nursing temporarily during treatment with Cefixime.
