E-Gold (d-alpha tocopherol) capsules are used for treating and preventing vitamin E deficiency. It is also recommended as an antioxidant to support and treat various health conditions such as:
Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant in the body, protecting polyunsaturated fatty acids and other oxygen-sensitive substances like vitamins A and C from oxidation. Vitamin E deficiency can lead to irritability, edema, thrombosis, and hemolytic anemia in premature neonates. In adults and children with low serum tocopherol levels, effects such as creatinuria, ceroid deposition, muscle weakness, decreased erythrocyte survival, or increased in vitro hemolysis by oxidizing agents have been observed.
High doses (>1000 IU daily) may cause transient gastrointestinal disturbances.
E-gold may interfere with the absorption of vitamin A and the function of vitamin K, and it may potentiate the effect of Warfarin.
Avoid E-Gold if there is a known hypersensitivity to vitamin E. Patients with rare hereditary conditions such as fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrose-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine.
Diarrhea and abdominal pain may occur with doses exceeding 1000 IU daily.
High doses of vitamin E are not considered safe during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. Avoid use during lactation due to insufficient information on excretion in breast milk.
E-Gold may increase bleeding tendency in vitamin K-deficient patients or those on anticoagulant therapy. Monitor prothrombin time and INR. There may be an increased risk of thrombosis in patients predisposed to this condition, including those taking estrogen-containing oral contraceptives.
Store E-Gold in a dry place away from light and heat, and keep it out of the reach of children.
