Calcium carbonate acts as an antacid by neutralizing gastric hydrochloric acid, producing calcium chloride, water, and carbon dioxide. This neutralization increases gastric pH, thereby reducing the activity of pepsin, an enzyme involved in protein digestion. Approximately 30% of an orally administered calcium dose may be absorbed into the systemic circulation, contributing to calcium supplementation while also providing acid-neutralizing effects.

Rocal Jr 250 mg / 500 mg Tablet:
Rocal Jr is indicated for the prevention and treatment of calcium deficiency when dietary calcium intake is insufficient. It is used in conditions associated with reduced calcium levels, including hypoparathyroidism, achlorhydria, chronic diarrhoea, vitamin D deficiency, steatorrhoea, sprue, pregnancy, lactation, menopause, pancreatitis, renal failure, metabolic alkalosis, and hyperphosphataemia. It is also widely used to control hyperphosphataemia in patients with chronic kidney disease, including those undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) or haemodialysis. In some cases, dietary phosphate restriction or small doses of aluminium hydroxide may be required for optimal phosphate control. Additionally, calcium carbonate preparations may provide temporary relief from dyspeptic symptoms, although they are not recommended for long-term management of peptic ulcer disease.
Rocal Jr 1000 mg Tablet:
Rocal Jr 1000 mg is indicated for the symptomatic relief of conditions related to excess stomach acid, including acid indigestion, heartburn, sour stomach, hyperacidity, and upset stomach.
Children:
Rocal Jr has been extensively evaluated in infants and children with chronic renal disease and has demonstrated a favourable safety and efficacy profile.
Elderly:
Older adults, particularly those with renal impairment, may be more susceptible to constipation. Regular monitoring of serum calcium and phosphate levels is recommended in this population.
Calcium salts should also be used cautiously in individuals with sarcoidosis, renal impairment, cardiac disease, or those receiving cardiac glycosides.
Store below room temperature in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture and excessive heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
