Vigalon 0.5% Ophthalmic Solution 5ml

✔️ Moxifloxacin, the active ingredient in Vigalon, is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It works by inhibiting two essential bacterial enzymes:

• DNA gyrase (Topoisomerase II)
• Topoisomerase IV

These enzymes are necessary for bacterial DNA replication, repair, and cell division. By blocking them, the drug stops bacterial growth and leads to elimination of the infection.

✔️ Side Effects

• Eye irritation or discomfort
• Dry eyes
• Burning sensation
• Redness (ocular hyperemia)
• Itching
• Watery eyes
• Temporary blurred vision
• Cough
• Nasal or throat infection
• Rash
• Ear infection (otitis media)

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Eye drops:

• Instill 1 drop in the affected eye 3 times daily for 7 days

Eye ointment:

• Apply a thin layer 3 times daily for the first 2 days
• Then reduce to 2 times daily for the next 5 days or as advised by the physician

Intraocular use:

• 0.2–0.4 ml may be given before eye surgery via the intraocular route
• The exact dose must be determined by the doctor

✔️ How to Use

• For external eye use only
• Instill drops into the lower eyelid without touching the dropper tip to the eye
• Wipe excess fluid if needed
• Follow the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve

✔️ Drug Interaction

• No significant drug interactions reported
• Does not inhibit major CYP450 enzymes (low interaction risk)

✔️ Contraindications

• Allergy to moxifloxacin
• Hypersensitivity to other quinolone antibiotics
• Allergy to any component of the formulation

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Prolonged use may cause secondary fungal or resistant infections
• Stop use if superinfection develops
• Avoid contact lenses during infection
• Use slit lamp examination if needed for evaluation
• Avoid contamination of the dropper tip

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Should be used in pregnancy only if clearly necessary
• May pass into breast milk; use with caution during breastfeeding

✔️ Storage:

• Store below 25°C
• Do not freeze
• Protect from light
• Keep tightly closed and avoid contamination
• Discard after 1 month of opening
