Indication of Prevenar 13 Injection

Vaccination helps prevent invasive diseases, pneumonia, and otitis media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae in infants, children, and youths from 6 weeks to 17 years old. It also prevents invasive diseases and pneumonia in adults aged 18 years and above, including the elderly. The decision to use vaccines should be based on official recommendations, considering the risk of invasive infection and pneumonia in different age groups and geographical areas, as well as underlying health conditions and serotype variations.

Pharmacology

These products convey active immunity via stimulation of the production of endogenously produced antibodies.

Dosage & Administration of Prevenar 13 Injection

The Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine is administered in a series of doses based on age:

Infants from 6 weeks to 6 months of age:

  • Three-dose primary series: Three doses, with the first dose usually given at 2 months of age and an interval of at least 1 month between doses. The first dose can be given as early as six weeks of age. A booster dose is recommended at least 6 months after the last priming dose.
  • Two-dose primary series: Alternatively, a series of three doses may be given as part of routine infant immunization. The first dose can be administered at 2 months of age, with a second dose 2 months later. A booster dose is recommended at least 6 months after the last primary dose.

Previously unvaccinated older infants and children:

  • Infants aged 7-11 months: Two doses with an interval of at least 1 month between doses. A third dose is recommended in the second year of life with an interval of at least 2 months between doses.
  • Children aged 12-23 months: Two doses with an interval of at least 2 months between doses. The need for a booster dose after this schedule has not been established.

Prevenar 13 Injection/Vaccine is administered by a doctor or nurse as an intramuscular injection in the anterolateral aspect of the thigh in infants or the deltoid muscle in children and adults. It should not be injected in the gluteal area or areas with major nerve trunks and blood vessels. The correct dose and duration will be determined by your doctor based on your age, body weight, and health condition.
