Uses of Arotrix Cream

• Scabies

How does Arotrix Cream work?

Arotrix Cream works by killing tiny insects (mites) and their eggs, which cause scabies. It also kills head lice which attach to your scalp and irritate it.

Side Effects of Arotrix Cream

• Common side effects: Mild skin discomfort (burning, stinging, tingling) after application.
• Other possible reactions: Erythema, edema, eczema, rash, and itching (pruritus).

Quick Suggestions:

• Avoid scratching the skin as it may worsen the infection.
• Permite 5 % Cream is prescribed for the treatment of scabies( a condition where tiny insects infest and irritate your skin).
• It should be used as per the dose and duration suggested by your doctor.
• If the condition persists after 14 days of treatment then the doctor may suggest another treatment.
• Apply a thin layer of this medicine all over the body and leave it for 8-14 hours before taking a bath or shower.
• Avoid getting it in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If this happens, rinse with water immediately.
• Avoid direct skin-to-skin contact. Seek medical help if your sexual partner also develops scabies.

Indications:

Arotrix cream (Permethrin) is indicated for the treatment of scabies and crab lice infestations (Pediculosis). Since scabies can spread easily within households, it is recommended that all family members be treated together if one person is infected.

Pharmacology

Arotrix contains Permethrin, a pyrethroid insecticide that is effective against Sarcoptes scabiei (the mite-causing scabies). It disrupts the sodium channels in the nerve cell membrane of the parasites, leading to delayed repolarization, paralysis, and ultimately death of the mites.

• Pharmacokinetics: Permethrin is applied topically. Less than 0.5% is absorbed through the skin within the first 48 hours. The absorbed portion is metabolized primarily in the liver and excreted in urine.

Dosage & Administration of Arotrix Cream

• Adults and children over 12 years: Use a full tube of cream.
• Children aged 6-12 years: Up to half a tube.
• Children aged 1-5 years: Up to a quarter of a tube.
• Children aged 2 months to 1 year: Up to one-eighth of a tube.
• Children under 2 months: Dosage is not established.

Administration

1. Ensure the skin is clean, cool, and dry before application. Avoid hot showers or baths before applying the cream.
2. For adults and children over 2 years: Apply the cream to the entire body from the neck down, including areas between the fingers and toes, under the nails, and on the soles of the feet.
3. For babies under 2 years: Apply to the face, neck, ears, and scalp, avoiding the eyes and mouth area.
4. Leave the cream on for at least 8 hours, then wash it off. If an area is washed during the treatment time, reapply the cream.
5. If needed, repeat treatment after 7 days as per medical advice.

Interaction

• Corticosteroids should not be used for eczematous reactions prior to applying Arotrix as they can suppress the immune response, worsening the scabies infestation.

Contraindications

• Arotrix is contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to permethrin, pyrethroids, or any of the components of the cream.
• Healthcare workers applying permethrin frequently should wear gloves to avoid irritation.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: This should be used under medical supervision, as there are no specific studies on pregnant women.
• Lactation: Unknown if permethrin is excreted in breast milk, so it is not recommended for use in nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

• Scabies treatment may initially worsen symptoms like itching, swelling, and redness.
• Avoid contact with eyes, and flush with water immediately if the cream comes into contact with the eyes.

Storage:

Do not store it above 25°C. Do not freeze the cream. Store it in the original package to protect it from light and moisture.
