Indications
Fluticasone Propionate is prescribed to prevent and treat seasonal allergic rhinitides, such as hay fever and perennial rhinitis. It has strong anti-inflammatory properties on the nasal mucosa but no systemic effects.
Pharmacology
Fluticasone propionate has anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictor properties after topical application to the nasal mucosa. The precise mechanism of these actions is unknown, but it may involve a decrease in the number of mediator cells (basophils, leukocytes, and mast cells) at the epithelial level, eosinophils, sensory nerve sensitivity to mechanical stimuli, secretory response to cholinergic receptor stimulation, and fibroblast activity. Other methods could include capillary dilatation and permeability inhibition, lysosomal membrane stabilization, and proteolytic enzyme release prevention.
Dosage & Administration
For adults & children over 12 years: 2 sprays in each nostril once a day preferably in the morning. In some cases 2 sprays into each nostril twice daily, not exceeding 4 sprays.
Children under 12 years (4-11 years): 1 spray in each nostril once a day. The maximum total daily dosage should not exceed 4 sprays. For perennial rhinitis in children, there are insufficient clinical data to recommend its use.
Children below 4 years: The safety and effectiveness of Fluticasone Propionate nasal spray in children below 4 years of age have not been established.
Patients should use Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray at regular intervals as directed since its effectiveness depends on its regular use. Or as directed by the physician.
Contraindications
Patients who are hypersensitive to any of the chemicals in Fluticasone Propionate nasal spray should not use it.
Side Effects
Because fluticasone propionate nasal spray is absorbed more slowly in the remainder of the body, it has fewer side effects. Drying of the nose and throat, unpleasant taste and smell, and an increase in the occurrence of nosebleeds are all possible side effects of the nasal spray.
Pregnancy & Lactation
In pregnant women, there are no sufficient and well-controlled trials. Only if the possible benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus should Fluticasone Propionate be taken during pregnancy. Fluticasone Propionate is not known to be excreted in human breast milk. Fluticasone Propionate nasal spray should be used with caution in breastfeeding women because other corticosteroids are excreted in human milk.
Precautions & Warnings
Following the intranasal use of corticosteroids, such as Fluticasone Propionate, rare cases of wheezing, nasal septum perforation, cataracts, glaucoma, and elevated intraocular pressure have been documented. Although systemic effects of Fluticasone Propionate nasal spray at approved doses have been negligible. With higher doses, the danger of harm increases. Fluticasone Propionate nasal spray in higher than recommended doses should be avoided.
Storage Conditions
Keep all medicines out of reach of the children. Store in a cool and dry place protected from light.
