How does Rostil 135mg Tablet work?

Rostil 135mg Tablet relaxes the muscles in the walls of the intestines and thereby relieves the symptoms such as spasms, pain, cramps, etc. associated with irritable bowel syndrome.

• Mebeverine relieves symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome such as abdominal pain and cramps, bloating, flatulence, and diarrhea alternating with constipation.
• Take it 20 minutes before a meal to relieve or reduce post-meal symptoms.
• Talk to your doctor if your symptoms do not get better within two weeks of taking Mebeverine, or get worse at any time.

Indications:

Mebeverine is prescribed for the following conditions:

• Irritable bowel syndrome symptomatic therapy (IBS)
• Irritable colon syndrome (chronic)
• Constipation caused by spasms
• Mucous colitis (a type of ulcerative colitis)
• Abdominal pain caused by colic
• Non-specific diarrhea that persists

Pharmacology

• Mebeverine inhibits calcium ion influx into the smooth muscle cells.
• This leads to decreased muscle contractions in the gastrointestinal tract.
• Smooth muscle relaxation results in relief from painful spasms and cramps.

Dosage & Administration:

For adults, elderly, and children over 10 years:

• Mebeverine Hydrochloride 135 mg tablet: 1 tablet three times daily.
• Mebeverine Hydrochloride 200 mg capsule: 1 capsule two times daily. This is most effective when taken 20 minutes before meals. After several weeks when the desired effect has been obtained, the dosage may be gradually reduced.

Use in Children: Mebeverine is not recommended for children under 10 years.

Missed Dose: If a dose of this medicine is missed, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and maintain the regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to compensate for the missed one.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the medication or any of its components.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Animal studies have revealed no teratogenicity. However, normal precautions for administering any medication during pregnancy should be followed. Mebeverine does not pass into breast milk once a therapeutic dose is administered.

Precautions & Warnings

Caution should be used if you have porphyria or an adverse response to this or any other drug in this class.
