✔️ How Losart Plus Tablet Works

Losartan Potassium blocks the action of angiotensin II, a substance that narrows blood vessels and stimulates aldosterone release. By blocking angiotensin II receptors, it relaxes blood vessels and lowers blood pressure.

Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic (“water pill”) that increases the elimination of sodium and water through the kidneys, reducing blood volume and helping lower blood pressure. Losartan also helps counteract the potassium loss commonly associated with thiazide diuretics.

✔️ Side Effects of Losart Plus Tablet

Most side effects are mild and temporary.

Common Side Effects

• Dizziness
• Symptomatic low blood pressure
• Vertigo

Less Common Side Effects

• Headache
• Palpitations
• Swelling (edema)
• Shortness of breath
• Stomach discomfort
• Sleep disturbances
• Skin rash, itching, or hives
• Fatigue or general weakness

Rare but Serious Side Effects

• Angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat)

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience facial swelling, difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, or fainting.

• Severe dehydration
• Electrolyte imbalances

Emergency medical attention is required. Treatment is supportive, and hemodialysis is not effective for removing losartan from the body.

✔️ Dosage and Administration

Take Losart Plus exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

For Hypertension

• Usual starting dose: Losartan/Hydrochlorothiazide 50 mg/12.5 mg once daily.
• If blood pressure remains uncontrolled, the dose may be increased to 100 mg/25 mg once daily.
• Patients inadequately controlled on Losartan 100 mg alone may be switched to 100 mg/12.5 mg once daily.

For Hypertension with Left Ventricular Hypertrophy

• Initial dose: 50 mg/12.5 mg once daily.
• Dose may be increased to 100 mg/12.5 mg, and then to 100 mg/25 mg if additional blood pressure reduction is needed.

For Severe Hypertension

• Starting dose: 50 mg/12.5 mg once daily.
• If response is inadequate after 2–4 weeks, increase to 100 mg/25 mg once daily.
• Maximum recommended dose: 100 mg/25 mg once daily.

• Elderly: Standard starting doses can usually be used, but high doses should not be initiated without medical supervision.
• Kidney Impairment: Suitable for patients with mild to moderate impairment (creatinine clearance above 30 mL/min). Not recommended in severe renal impairment.
• Liver Impairment: Generally not recommended due to difficulties with dose adjustment.
• Children: Safety and effectiveness have not been established.

Administration Tips

• May be taken with or without food.
• Can be used alongside other blood pressure medications if recommended by your doctor.
• Take at the same time each day for optimal benefit.

✔️ Before using Losart Plus, tell your doctor if you have:

• Kidney disease
• Liver impairment
• Electrolyte imbalances
• History of angioedema
• Severe dehydration
• Heart disease or circulation disorders

Regular monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels is recommended during treatment.

✔️ Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

• Pregnancy: Losart Plus should not be used during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary, as it may harm the developing baby.
• Breastfeeding: Use is generally not recommended while breastfeeding due to limited safety information.
