Indications of Flatameal-DS 200 ml
Flatameal-DS 200 ml is used to treat hyperacidity caused by a peptic ulcer, gastritis, peptic oesophagitis, gastric hyperacidity, heartburn, sour stomach, or a hiatus hernia. It is useful in preventing stress ulcers and GI bleeding. It works as an antiflatulent to relieve gas symptoms, particularly post-operative gas discomfort. This quickly reduces acid discomfort, disperses gastric froth, and promotes gas and air eructation.
Pharmaceutical Name
Pharmacology
Flatameal-DS 200 ml is a combination of antiflatulent and non-systemic acid neutralizing chemicals. This preparation has a high level of dependability as well as a lengthy duration of action. Aluminium Hydroxide and Magnesium Hydroxide relieve ulcers by neutralizing gastric acid generated by the stomach's parietal cells. The antifoam characteristics of simethicone make it useful in therapeutic applications. Simethicone spreads on the surface of aqueous liquids, producing a low surface tension layer and causing foam bubbles to collapse. Simethicone causes mucous-encased gas bubbles in the GI tract to agglomerate and be ejected repeatedly.
This is used to treat flatulence and meteorism by removing gas, air, or foam from the gastro-intestinal tract before to radiography, as well as to relieve stomach distension and dyspepsia.
Simethicone is physiologically inert; it does not appear to be absorbed from the GI tract, where it may interfere with gastric secretion or nutritional absorption. The medication is eliminated unaltered in the feces after oral dosing.
Dosage & Administration
Tablet: 1-2 tablets 1-3 hours after meal and at bed time or as directed by the physician.
Suspension: 1-2 teaspoonful 1-3 hours after meal and at bedtime or as directed by the physician.
Interaction
All antacids have the potential to enhance or reduce the pace and/or amount of absorption of oral medications taken concurrently. Sulphonamides, levodopa, valproic acid, enteric coated aspirin, and so on.
Contraindications
This should not be given to individuals who have renal failure, hypophosphataemia, or are extremely debilitated. It is also not recommended in cases of alkalosis or hypermagnesaemia, when abdominal distention may be caused by partial or full intestinal blockage.
Side Effects of Flatameal-DS 200 ml
Side effects on the gastrointestinal tract are rare. Diarrhea, constipation, or regurgitation may occur if an excessive quantity is eaten.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Antacid medicines should be avoided throughout the first trimester of pregnancy.
Precautions & Warnings
In individuals with renal problems, this should be taken with care.
Therapeutic Class
Antacids
Storage Conditions
Keep below 30°C and away from light and moisture. Keep out of children's reach.
Administration
Aluminium Hydroxide: Enhanced absorption with citrates or ascorbic acid. Decreases absorption of allopurinol, tetracyclines, quinolones, cephalosporins, biphosphonate derivatives, corticosteroids, cyclosporin, delavirdine, Fe salts, imidazole antifungals, isoniazid, mycophenolate, penicillamine, phosphate supplements, phenytoin, phenothiazines, trientine. Magnesium Hydroxide: Decreases absorption of tetracyclines and biphosphonates. Separate administration of these and other drugs by around 2 hr. Simethicon: None well documented.
Adult Dose
Chronic renal impairment; CHF; oedema; cirrhosis and low Na diets; patients with recent GI haemorrhage. Administer 2-3 hrs before/after another medication to minimise drug interactions. Pregnancy and lactation. Lactation: excretion in milk unknown
Renal Dose
Aluminum hydroxide: Neutralizes stomach hydrocloride to form AlCl3 salt plus water; increases gastric pH. Magnesium hydroxide: Promotes bowel evacuation by causing osmotic retention of fluid, which causes the colon to distend with increased peristaltic activity; forms magnesium chloride when reacts with hydrochloric acid. Simethicone: Disperses and prevents gas pockets in the GI system by decreasing surface tension of gas bubles.
Mode of Action
Administration Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Precaution
