Benzoic Acid + Salicylic Acid is a dermatological medication primarily used to treat conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, skin irritation, and inflammation caused by burns, insect bites, and fungal infections. Eczema presents as inflamed, itchy, cracked, and rough skin patches, while psoriasis involves rapid skin cell multiplication leading to red patches covered with white scales, commonly found on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back.
Bensal contains two active ingredients: Salicylic acid and Benzoic acid. Salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic agent, softening and peeling the outer layer of the skin (stratum corneum), removing dead skin cells, and soothing the skin. It also possesses anti-inflammatory and topical antibacterial properties. Benzoic acid functions as a fungistatic and antiseptic agent, inhibiting fungal growth, and acts as an antimicrobial preservative.
The appropriate dosage of Benzoic Acid + Salicylic Acid will be determined by your doctor based on the severity of your infection. It is for topical use only, and if accidentally exposed to the eyes, nose, or mouth, rinse thoroughly with cold water. Common side effects may include warmth or a burning sensation, skin irritation, itching, and redness at the application site, typically lasting for about five minutes after application.
Inform your doctor of any allergic reactions to Benzoic Acid + Salicylic Acid or other medications. Avoid covering the treated area with a dressing or bandage unless advised by your doctor. Do not apply this medication on mucous membranes, lesions, or large skin areas without consulting your doctor. Individuals with kidney, and liver diseases, or other skin infections should seek medical advice before using Benzoic Acid + Salicylic Acid. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before starting this medication.
