✔️ Overdose Effects of Lioresal 25mg Tablet

• Severe overdose may require gastric lavage.

✔️ Pharmacology:

• Lioresal 25 mg acts as a muscle relaxant and antispastic agent, mainly at the spinal level.
• Though its exact mechanism is unclear, it works by stimulating GABAB receptors, inhibiting the release of glutamate and aspartate, and affecting both monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflexes.
• It may also depress the central nervous system (CNS) at intraspinal sites without impacting neuromuscular transmission.
• Exhibits an antinociceptive (pain-relieving) effect, though the clinical relevance is uncertain.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Lioresal 25mg Tablet

• Adults: Typically divided doses, three times a day, starting low and increasing gradually. Usual range: 30-80 mg daily; maximum: 80 mg daily.
• Children: Start with very low doses (0.3 mg/kg per day, divided) and increase cautiously. Maintenance dose: 0.75 to 2 mg/kg per day. For children over 10 years, maximum: 2.5 mg/kg per day.
• Take with a small amount of liquid during meals.

• Increased sedation with CNS depressants, alcohol, synthetic opiates, and risk of respiratory depression.
• Enhanced hypotension with antihypertensives; dosage adjustment may be needed.
• Increased muscle hypotonia with tricyclic antidepressants.
• Potential mental confusion, hallucinations, and other symptoms in Parkinson’s disease patients using levodopa and carbidopa.
• Increased CNS depressant effects with MAO inhibitors.
• Possible synergistic effect with magnesium sulfate or other neuromuscular blocking agents.

• Hypersensitivity to any component of Lioresal 25 mg.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation:

• Category B3. Crosses the placental barrier; use only if benefits outweigh risks. Excreted in breast milk in minimal amounts, unlikely to affect the infant.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings:

• Lower doses for patients with renal impairment or undergoing hemodialysis.
• Monitor patients with psychiatric disorders, epilepsy, peptic ulcers, cerebrovascular diseases, or hepatic/renal/respiratory failure.
• Not significantly beneficial for stroke patients; poor tolerance observed.
• Regular tests for hepatic diseases or diabetes mellitus.
