✔️ Each capsule contains: Defaz CI

• Elemental iron 50 mg (as Carbonyl Iron INN)
• Folic acid BP 500 micrograms
• Zinc sulfate monohydrate USP 61.80 mg (equivalent to 22.50 mg zinc)

Adequate intake of folic acid before and during pregnancy may help reduce the risk of certain birth defects

✔️ Overdose Effects of Defaz CI

Symptoms of overdose include decreased energy, nausea, abdominal pain, tarry stool, weak and rapid pulse, fever, coma, and seizures.

✔️ Pharmacology

This timed-release capsule is a combined preparation of Carbonyl Iron, Folic Acid, and Zinc Sulphate Monohydrate. Carbonyl Iron, which contains not less than 98% iron, is a safer and more effective option for iron supplementation due to its high bioavailability and low toxicity.

• Follow a well-balanced diet.
• Exercising regularly helps in improving overall health.
• Rest well, and get plenty of sleep.
• Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption.
• Meditation and yoga can help lower stress.
• Avoid processed and fried food.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Defaz CI

Adults: One capsule daily before food, or as directed by a physician.

✔️ Interaction

Carbonyl Iron can decrease the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, quinolone antibiotics, levodopa, levothyroxine, methyldopa, and penicillamine. Folic Acid may reduce the plasma concentrations of antiepileptic drugs such as phenobarbital, phenytoin, and primidone.

✔️ Contraindications

This capsule is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any of its components or those with iron overload conditions.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Use of any drug during the first trimester of pregnancy should be avoided unless there is definite evidence of iron deficiency. Supplementation of iron, folic acid, and zinc is recommended during the remainder of pregnancy when the diet is inadequate.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

Caution should be exercised in patients with iron overload conditions like hemochromatosis, hemolytic anemia, or red blood cell aplasia. Failure to respond to treatment requires further investigation to rule out other causes of anemia. Zinc accumulation risk exists in patients with renal failure.
