✅ Description:
Dactus Tablet contains Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea antidiabetic medicine used to improve blood sugar control in adults with Type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is prescribed when healthy eating and regular exercise alone are not enough to manage blood glucose levels. Dactus may be used on its own or in combination with metformin or insulin when additional blood sugar control is required. Since combining it with insulin may increase the risk of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar), careful monitoring is recommended.
Always take Dactus exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
- Starting dose: Usually 1 mg once daily.
- If needed, the dose may be increased gradually every 1–2 weeks based on blood glucose monitoring.
- The usual maintenance dose ranges from 1 mg to 4 mg daily, although some patients may require up to 6 mg daily.
Take the tablet immediately before or with breakfast, or before the first main meal of the day if breakfast is skipped. Swallow the tablet whole with plenty of water, and avoid skipping meals after taking your dose.
Your doctor may adjust the dose if:
- Blood sugar control improves
- Your weight or lifestyle changes
- You switch from another oral diabetes medicine
- You become more prone to low or high blood sugar
Do not take Dactus if you:
- Have Type 1 diabetes
- Have diabetic ketoacidosis or diabetic coma
- Are allergic to Glimepiride, sulfonylureas, or sulfonamides
- Have severe liver disease
- Have severe kidney impairment or are receiving dialysis

✔️ How Dactus Works
Glimepiride lowers blood sugar by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin. It also improves the body's response to insulin, decreases glucose production by the liver, and enhances glucose uptake by muscles and other tissues. A single dose can help control blood sugar for up to 24 hours in many patients.

Beta-blockers, clonidine, and reserpine may hide the warning signs of low blood sugar. Alcohol may either increase or decrease the medicine's effect unpredictably.
✔️ Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Dactus should not be used during pregnancy. Women who are pregnant or planning pregnancy should switch to insulin after consulting their doctor. Breastfeeding is also not recommended while taking Glimepiride, as it may pass into breast milk and affect the infant.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
The risk of hypoglycaemia is highest during the first few weeks of treatment, so regular blood glucose monitoring is essential. Low blood sugar can usually be corrected quickly by consuming glucose or sugary foods or drinks. Follow your doctor's dietary recommendations and never skip meals while taking this medicine.
