Noscab Cream

Indications

An antiparasitic drug is called Noscab. It is used to treat scabies, a skin irritation and infestation caused by microscopic insects. By destroying the insects (mites) and their eggs, this medication kills them.

Pharmacology

Permethrin cream includes Permethrin, a pyrethroid that is used as a topical scabicidal agent to treat Sarcoptes Scabiei infestations (scabies). It works on the nerve cell membrane to interrupt the sodium channel current, which regulates membrane polarization. The bugs are paralyzed as a result of this disruption, which causes delayed repolarization.

Pharmacokinetics: The topical route is the solely authorized route of administration, and there are little human data on systemic exposure or kinetics following permethrin application to the skin. The skin has some systemic metabolism. During the first 48 hours, less than 0.5 percent of the administered permethrin is absorbed. Permethrin absorbed is swiftly metabolized by ester hydrolysis, most likely in the liver, and the metabolites are largely eliminated in the urine.

Dosage

Recommended duration of Treatment:

• Adults and children over 12 years: a full tube
• Children aged 6-12 years: up to 1⁄2 of a tube
• Children aged 1-5 years: up to ¼ of a tube
• Children aged 2 months to 1 year: up to ⅛ of a tube
• Children Less than 2 months: dose is not established

Administration

Before the application of Permethrin cream, the skin should be clean, cool, and dry. Do not have a hot shower or bath before applying.

For adults and children over 2 years: Apply the cream to the whole body from the neck down, rubbing lightly into the skin until the cream disappears. It is important to include all skin surfaces, such as between the fingers and toes, under the nails, and on the soles of the feet.

For babies under 2 years: Apply to the face, neck, ears, and scalp as well, only avoiding the area immediately around the eyes and mouth.

Leave cream on for at least 8 hours, before washing it off. Reapply to any area that may be washed during the 8h treatment time (such as after washing the hands). If necessary, permethrin cream should be used again after 7 days as per the advice of the doctor.

Interaction

Corticosteroid therapy for eczema-like responses should be avoided prior to permethrin treatment because it increases the risk of worsening the scabies infestation by suppressing the immunological response to the mite.

Contraindications

Permethrin is not recommended for people who have a history of hypersensitivity to any component of pyrethroids or permethrin. Nursing personnel who apply permethrin on a regular basis should wear gloves to protect their hands from discomfort.

Side Effects

Skin pain, commonly characterized as burning, stinging, or tingling, occurs in a few Scabies patients shortly after the cream is administered. Other temporary irritation signs and symptoms include erythema, edema, eczema, rash, and pruritus.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Of the lack of particular studies on pregnant women, its usage during pregnancy should be limited to following medical guidance. Permethrin is not known to be excreted in human milk, thus it should not be used in nursing mothers.

Precautions & Warnings

Pruritus, edema, and erythema are common symptoms of scabies infestation. Permethrin treatment may temporarily worsen these symptoms. Patients should be instructed to avoid contact with their eyes during application and to immediately flush their eyes with water if the cream gets in their eyes.

Storage Conditions

Keep out of the reach of children and store in a cool, dry location away from light.
