Indications
A medication called flunarizine is used to prevent migraines. It only works to prevent migraines for as long as you take the medication; it cannot, however, treat an acute attack. This medication reduces mental tension, thereby preventing migraines.
Pharmacology
Flunarizine is the cinnarizine difluorinated derivative. It is a selective calcium channel antagonist. By lowering excessive calcium transmembrane influx, calcium transmembrane inflow is decreased. Flunarizine prevents cells from having too much calcium. Normal calcium homeostasis in cells is unaffected. Additionally, flunarizine has some sedative and antihistaminic qualities. It has a 99 percent affinity for plasma protein.
Dosage & Administration
Interaction
During the first two months of Flunarizine therapy, a small number of women using oral contraceptives have experienced galactorrhoea. Hepatic enzyme inducers like carbamazepine and phenytoin may interact with flunarizine by speeding up its metabolism. Therefore, an increase in flunarizine dosage might be required.
Contraindications
hypersensitivity to flunarizine. Flunarizine is not advised for people who have previously experienced a depressive episode, have symptoms of Parkinson's disease or other extrapyramidal diseases, or who have any of these conditions.
Side Effect
Pregnancy & Lactation
There is no evidence of safety during pregnancy or lactation.
