Bisoprolol selectively blocks β1-adrenergic receptors, which are located mainly in the heart. This action slows the heart rate and reduces the workload of the heart, allowing it to pump blood more efficiently. As a result, blood pressure decreases, and symptoms of certain heart conditions improve.
Bisoprolol is highly selective for β1 receptors and has minimal effects on β2 receptors. Unlike some non-selective beta-blockers, long-term use does not significantly alter cholesterol levels, including beneficial HDL cholesterol.
The drug is well absorbed after oral administration, with an absolute bioavailability of approximately 88%. Food does not significantly affect absorption. Bisoprolol is eliminated through both the kidneys and the liver, and its half-life is approximately 10–12 hours, supporting once-daily dosing
Avoid alcohol consumption while taking Bisoprolol as it may cause dizziness or light-headedness.
Bisoprolol should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly necessary. If management with bisoprolol is considered necessary, the uteroplacental blood flow and fetal growth should be monitored. In case of harmful effects on pregnancy or the fetus, alternative management should be considered.
Human studies have shown that Bisoprolol is excreted into breast milk in small amounts. The concentration of the drug in milk correlates with its plasma levels in the mother. Therefore, breastfeeding is not recommended during therapy with Betabis 2.5 TABLET.
Do not drive or operate any machines until you know the effect of Betabis 2.5 TABLET on your ability to drive.
Betabis 2.5 TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with severely impaired kidney diseases. Dosage adjustment and careful monitoring are required in such patients. Therefore, inform your doctor if you have any pre-existing kidney diseases as a precaution.
Betabis 2.5 TABLET should be used with caution in patients with severely impaired liver function. Regular medical check-ups and blood tests are required in such patients. Therefore, inform your doctor if you have any pre-existing liver diseases as a precaution.
Adults with mild to moderate hypertension are usually started on 5 mg once daily, either alone or together with a diuretic. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 10 mg, then to 20 mg once daily, with dose adjustments generally made at intervals of at least two weeks.
The tablet should be swallowed whole and may be taken with or without food. Taking it at the same time every day is recommended.
For patients with kidney or liver impairment, treatment usually begins at 5 mg daily, and dosage increases should be made cautiously. Elderly patients generally do not require dose adjustments unless significant kidney or liver dysfunction is present.
These combinations may increase the risk of low blood pressure, slow heart rate, conduction abnormalities, or heart failure.
The safety of bisoprolol during pregnancy has not been fully established in humans. It should only be used when the potential benefit outweighs the possible risks to the fetus. Since small amounts may pass into breast milk, breastfeeding may need to be discontinued if treatment is considered necessary.
Dose adjustments should be made carefully in patients with kidney or liver impairment. Individuals with a history of severe allergic reactions may be more sensitive to allergens while taking beta-blockers and may respond less effectively to epinephrine treatment during an allergic emergency.
Store below room temperature in a dry place, protected from excessive heat and light. Keep out of the reach of children.
