How does Ecoderm TA Cream work?

Econazole is an antifungal medication. It kills and stops the growth of the fungi by destroying its cell membrane, thereby treating your skin infection.

Triamcinolone Acetonide is a steroid that works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers in the body that cause inflammation (redness and swelling) and allergies.

Side Effects of Ecoderm TA Cream

Infection, Joint pain, Headache

Quick Suggestions:

• Use Triamcinolone Acetonide exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use it more often or for a longer duration than advised.
• Your doctor has prescribed Econazole to cure your infection and improve symptoms. Ensure you take all prescribed doses and finish the full course of treatment, even if you start feeling better before completing it.
• Triamcinolone Acetonide may weaken your immune system, making it harder to fight off infections. Notify your doctor promptly if you develop any signs of infection, such as fever or sore throat.
• Some side effects, such as mood changes or stomach problems, may occur when you start taking Triamcinolone Acetonide. Inform your doctor if you experience any bothersome side effects.
• Do not stop taking Triamcinolone Acetonide suddenly without consulting your doctor first, as it may worsen your symptoms. Your doctor will advise you on the appropriate way to taper off the medication if necessary.

Indication of Ecoderm TA Cream

• Severe allergic reactions
• Rheumatic disorder
• Fungal infections.

Pharmacology

Econazole modifies the permeability of cell wall membrane in fungi; may interfere with/ RNA and protein synthesis, and lipid metabolism. Triamcinolone has mainly glucocorticoid activity. It suppresses the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and reduces capillary permeability thereby decreasing inflammation.

Dosage & Administration of Ecoderm TA Cream

• Apply sparingly to the affected area up to 2 times daily.
• Avoid using occlusive dressings or on large skin areas.
• Treatment duration should not exceed 2 weeks; switch to a preparation containing econazole or econazole nitrate alone if needed.

Interaction

Econazole: compound metabolized by CYP3A4/2C9 oral anticoagulants (warfarin & acenocoumarol).

Triamcinolone: lowering of plasma salicylates levels. Increased risk of Gl bleeding and ulceration with NSAIDs. Antagonised blood glucose-lowering effects of the antidiabetics. Increased risk of Hyperkalemia with amphotericin B, beta-blockers, potassium-depleting diuretics, theophylline. Increased clearance of the triamcinolone with ciclosporin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, barbiturate, rifampicin.

Contraindications

This Cream is contraindicated-

• In individuals who have shown hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.
• Like any other dermatological preparation containing corticosteroids, this Cream is contraindicated in specific skin conditions such as tuberculous, varicella, herpes simplex, or other viral infections of the skin, or fresh vaccination sites.
• Decubitus ulcers: Viral, bacterial, or fungal skin infections (e.g. tuberculosis of the skin, syphilis of the skin, herpes simplex, herpes zoster, chickenpox).
• Rosacea and rosacea-like dermatitis.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: Not the Econazole but the Triamcinolone Acetonide crosses the placenta and topical administration of corticosteroids during pregnancy can cause abnormalities of fetal development. The relevance of this finding to human beings has not been established. However, topical steroids in large amounts or for prolonged periods
should not be used in pregnancy.

Lactation: A negligible amount of econazole and to some extent, Triamcinolone may be excreted in small amounts in breast milk. So this cream should not be prescribed to the lactating mother or if prescribed lactation should be withheld during treatment.

Precautions & Warnings

• Only for external use; avoid contact with eyes or ingestion.
• Discontinue use if hypersensitivity or irritation occurs.
• Systemic effects, including adrenal suppression, may occur with prolonged use.
• Increased caution is needed when treating children.
• Visual disturbances may occur; refer to an ophthalmologist if needed.

Storage Conditions:

• Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from light.
• Keep out of reach of children.
