The amino acids are an essential element in the diet. The catabolism of Amino acid initiates in muscle and yields NADH and FADH2 which can be utilized for ATP generation.
As with all intravenous fluid therapies, the primary goal is to provide adequate water to offset insensible losses, urinary losses, and other fluid losses such as those from nasogastric suction, fistula drainage, and diarrhea. Administering the infusion at a rate of 45 mL/kg/day will generally meet the fluid and amino acid needs of a stable adult patient. However, in pediatric patients, especially neonates and those with low birth weight, the dosage and constant infusion rate of intravenous dextrose must be carefully selected to mitigate the increased risk of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia.
Expected not to interact with other medications at the recommended dosage.
