Sarinex D (5mg+240mg) Tablet

✔️ Pharmacology

Desloratadine acts as a long-acting, tricyclic, non-sedating, selective peripheral histamine H1-receptor antagonist. It inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory mediators from human mast cells and basophils.

✔️ Dosage & Administration:

Tablet:

• Adults and children 12 years of age and over 5 mg daily

May be taken with or without food. Swallow whole; do not chew, break, or crush.

✔️ Overdose Effects

No clinically relevant adverse events have been reported in cases of overdosage. Symptomatic and supportive treatment is recommended in the event of overdosage.

✔️ Interaction

Potential increase in plasma concentrations with drugs affecting hepatic microsomal enzymes (e.g., azithromycin, cimetidine, erythromycin, fluoxetine, ketoconazole). Increased risk of hypertension and arrhythmias with cardiac glycosides, quinidine, or TCAs. Increased risk of vasoconstrictor effects with ergot alkaloids or oxytocin. Co-administration with MAOIs may cause hypertensive crisis. Interaction with anesthetics and antihypertensive agents.

✔️ Contraindications

Desloratadine is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to this medication or its ingredients or Loratadine.

✔️ Side Effects

Common side effects include dry mouth, fatigue, somnolence, and myalgia. Less common side effects may include dizziness, headache, and nausea. Rarely, rash, pruritus, and urticaria may occur.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Desloratadine should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It passes into breast milk, so a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or the medication, considering its importance to the mother.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Special caution is advised in patients with hepatic and renal impairment, during pregnancy and lactation.
• Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients under 2 years of age have not been established.
• Dose selection should be cautious in elderly patients due to decreased hepatic, renal, or cardiac function, and concomitant disease or drug therapy.
