Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet may help to prevent and alleviate chest discomfort by expanding blood vessels and boosting blood and oxygen delivery to the heart.

Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet alleviates angina by relaxing the blood vessels around the heart. Additionally, it allows more blood and oxygen to reach your heart muscles. Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet does not address the underlying cause of your chest discomfort, but it does assist to alleviate the symptoms.

Pharmacology

In peripheral arteries and veins, nitroglycerin has vasodilator effects and relaxes smooth muscle. The venous expansion increases peripheral blood accumulation, decreases venous return to the heart, lowers left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (preload), and arterial relaxation lowers blood pressure and systemic vascular resistance (afterload).

Dosage & Administration of Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet

The adult dosing recommendations for Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet in different forms and indications are as follows:

Oral (Stable angina):

  • Extended-release tablets/capsules: 2.6-6.4mg, taken 3-4 times daily. The dose can be adjusted based on the individual's response. The maximum recommended dose is 26mg taken 4 times daily.

Sublingual Tablet (Angina Pectoris - Acute Relief):

  • 0.5mg sublingual tablet can be taken every 5 minutes up to 3 times. It should be used at the first sign of angina.

Sublingual Tablet (Angina Pectoris - Prophylaxis):

  • 1 tablet (dose not specified) should be taken sublingually 5-10 minutes before activities that are likely to trigger angina attacks.

For patients with renal failure:

  • In patients with a creatinine clearance (CrCl) of 10-50mL/min, Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet should be administered every 24-72 hours.
  • In patients with a CrCl of less than 10mL/min, Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet should be administered every 72-96 hours.

Always use Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

For Tablet, Capsule: Swallow Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

For Sublingual Tablet: Place Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet inside your mouth, below the tongue and allow it to dissolve completely. Do not swallow or chew the medicine.

Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending on your age, body weight, and severity of your disease condition. Continue to take Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet for the stipulated duration prescribed by your doctor to achieve better results.

Interaction

Before taking Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet, it is important to inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications:

  • Medications for erectile dysfunction (male impotence) such as sildenafil, vardenafil, or tadalafil.
  • Medications used to treat paracetamol overdose, such as n-acetylcysteine.

Contraindications

Raised intracranial pressure: If you have increased pressure within the skull, Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet should not be used.

Concomitant use with phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitors: Nitrin SR 2.6mg Tablet should not be taken together with medications belonging to the class of phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitors, such as sildenafil, vardenafil, or tadalafil, commonly used for erectile dysfunction. The combination of these medications can lead to a significant drop in blood pressure.
