Description:

  • Delanix 30mg Capsule is a medication that reduces the production of stomach acid. It is commonly used to treat acid-related conditions such as heartburn, acid reflux, peptic ulcer disease, and other stomach conditions associated with excessive acid production.
  • This medication is also used to prevent stomach ulcers and acidity that may occur due to prolonged use of painkillers. Delanix 30mg Capsule belongs to a class of medications called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It is typically taken one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning. The dosage will depend on your specific condition and how you respond to the medication. Even if your symptoms improve quickly, it is important to continue taking the medication as prescribed.
  • To enhance the effectiveness of the treatment, you can try consuming smaller meals more frequently and avoiding caffeinated drinks (like tea and coffee), as well as spicy or fatty foods.
  • Common side effects of Delanix 30mg Capsule may include nausea, vomiting, flatulence, and diarrhea. These side effects are usually mild, but if they persist or become bothersome, it is advisable to consult your doctor. Prolonged use of this medication may increase the risk of certain side effects. For example, using Delanix 30mg Capsule for more than one year may raise the risk of bone fractures, particularly with higher doses. It is important to discuss preventive measures for bone loss (osteoporosis), such as taking calcium and vitamin D supplements, with your doctor.
  • Before taking Delanix 30mg Capsule, inform your doctor if you have severe liver problems, are taking medications for HIV, have previously experienced an allergic reaction to similar medications, or have a history of bone loss (osteoporosis). Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medication.

How does Delanix 30mg Capsule work?

Delanix 30mg Capsule belongs to the class of medications known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). The stomach's acid secretion is regulated by a specific type of enzyme called the proton pump. Delanix 30mg Capsule works by blocking the final step of acid production in the gastric parietal cells, which are responsible for secreting gastric acid. This suppression of acid production helps in reducing the acidity in the stomach.

Side Effects of Delanix 30mg Capsule
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach discomfort
  • Chest pain or discomfort
  • Headache
  • Numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  • Skin rash
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness
  • Visual disturbances
  • Excessive gas in the stomach
Quick Suggestions:
  • Take Dexlansoprazole 1 hour before a meal, preferably in the morning.
  • Dexlansoprazole is generally well-tolerated and provides long-lasting relief.
  • Avoid excessive intake of carbonated beverages/soft drinks, citrus juices, fried food, and caffeinated beverages like tea and coffee.
  • Avoid alcohol and smoking.
  • Avoid eating late at night or right before bedtime.
  • If you experience watery diarrhea, fever, or stomach pain that does not go away, inform your doctor.
  • If you do not feel better after taking Dexlansoprazole for 14 days, notify your doctor as you may require further evaluation for an underlying condition.
  • Long-term use of Dexlansoprazole can potentially weaken bones and lead to mineral deficiencies such as magnesium. Ensure adequate dietary intake of calcium and magnesium, or take supplements as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Consult your doctor immediately if you develop decreased urination, edema (swelling due to fluid retention), lower back pain, nausea, fatigue, rash, or fever. These could be signs of a kidney problem.
Indication of Delanix 30mg Capsule

Delanix 30mg Capsule is an anti-ulcer medication used to treat conditions characterized by excessive stomach acid production. It is effective in treating heartburn associated with non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), where stomach acid and bile irritate the food pipe. Additionally, Delanix 30mg Capsule Capsule aids in healing the damage caused to the esophagus (food pipe) due to excess acid production. By interfering with the final step of acid release in the stomach, it reduces acidity and promotes faster ulcer healing.

Pharmacology

A proton pump inhibitor (PPI), such as the sustained-release capsule of dexlansoprazole, prevents the secretion of gastric acid by specifically blocking (H + / K +) ATPase in gastric parietal cells. Dexlansoprazole stops the final stage of acid generation by only affecting the proton pump. It is lansoprazole's enantiomer (a racemic mixture of R and the enantiomer). In an oral pill, dexlansoprazole is offered in a dual delayed release (DDR) format. Two different enteric-coated granule types with various pH-dependent dissolving characteristics are mixed together in the capsule. The peak plasma concentration-time profiles for dexlansoprazole's dual delayed-release formulation differ; the first peak occurs 1 to 2 hours after treatment, and the second peak occurs 4 to 5 hours later. Dexlansoprazole's typical Cmax and AUC values after oral delivery rise roughly in proportion to the dose. The liver substantially metabolizes dexlansoprazole, which is then eliminated in the urine.

Interaction

It is important to note the following interactions and precautions with Delanix 30mg Capsule:

  • Anti-HIV medications: Concomitant use of Delanix 30mg Capsule with anti-viral drugs like Rilpivirine Atazanavir or other anti-HIV medications should be avoided, as Delanix 30mg Capsule may affect the antiviral drugs. It is recommended to consult with your doctor before taking these medications together.
  • Blood-thinning medications: Do not use Delanix 30mg Capsule if you are on blood-thinning medications like warfarin or phenprocoumon, as the combination may increase the risk of bleeding, which could be potentially fatal. Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including blood thinners.
  • Methotrexate: Long-term use of Delanix 30mg Capsule along with methotrexate has been shown to have a toxic effect. It is important to discuss this potential interaction with your doctor if you are taking methotrexate.
  • Reduced absorption of certain medications: Dexlansoprazole (the active ingredient in Delanix 30mg Capsule) can reduce the absorption of medicines such as iron salts, erlotinib, dasatinib, nilotinib, mycophenolate mofetil, ketoconazole/itraconazole, which rely on gastric acidity for their mechanism. It is advisable to discuss this with your doctor if you are taking any of these medications.
  • St. John's Wort: If you are taking St. John's Wort (a herbal preparation used to treat mood and nervous system disorders), it may decrease the effectiveness of dexlansoprazole. Inform your doctor if you are taking St. John's Wort before starting Delanix 30mg Capsule.
  • Water pills (diuretics): Close monitoring is advised if you are taking water pills (diuretics) like Bumetanide (Bumex) or Furosemide (Lasix) along with Delanix 30mg Capsule, as diuretics can cause magnesium imbalance, which may be worsened by dexlansoprazole.
Contraindications

Delanix 30mg Capsule should not be used in the following cases:

  • Allergy: If you are allergic to the active component dexlansoprazole or any other ingredient present in the capsule, you should avoid using Delanix 30mg Capsule.
  • Anti-HIV medications: If you are taking medications containing Rilpivirine, Atazanavir, or other anti-HIV medications, it is advised to avoid using Delanix 30mg Capsule. There may be potential interactions between these medications that could affect their effectiveness.
  • St. John's Wort: If you are consuming St. John's Wort, a herbal product used for mood and nervous system-related disorders, it is not recommended to use Delanix 30mg Capsule. St. John's Wort may interfere with the effectiveness of the Delanix 30mg Capsule.
  • Methotrexate: If you are taking methotrexate, a medication used for cancer treatment and psoriasis-like skin conditions, it is advisable to avoid using Delanix 30mg Capsule due to potential interactions and increased risk of toxicity.
  • Blood-thinning agents: Delanix 30mg Capsule should not be used if you are on a blood-thinning agent such as warfarin, as the combination may increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Vitamin B-12 deficiency: If you have very low levels of vitamin B-12, it is important to discuss this with your doctor before using Delanix 30mg Capsule, as long-term use of proton pump inhibitors like Delanix 30mg Capsule may lead to a further decrease in vitamin B-12 levels.
Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: There have been no specific studies conducted with dexlansoprazole use in pregnant women. However, dexlansoprazole is the R-enantiomer of lansoprazole, and observational studies on lansoprazole use during pregnancy have not shown an association of adverse pregnancy-related outcomes with lansoprazole. Animal studies with oral administration of lansoprazole to rats during organogenesis through lactation at 1.8 times the maximum recommended human dexlansoprazole dose showed reductions in offspring femur weight, femur length, crown-rump length, and growth plate thickness (in males only) on postnatal day 21. These effects were associated with a reduction in body weight gain. Pregnant women should be advised about the potential risk to the fetus. It is important to discuss the risks and benefits of dexlansoprazole use during pregnancy with your doctor.

Lactation: There is no information available on the presence of dexlansoprazole in human milk or its effects on breastfed infants or milk production. However, lansoprazole and its metabolites have been found in rat milk. When considering the use of dexlansoprazole, the developmental and health benefits of breastfeeding should be taken into account, along with the mother's clinical need for therapy and the potential adverse effects on the breastfed child from the therapy or the underlying maternal condition.

Precautions & Warnings
  • Pregnancy or planning for pregnancy: Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
  • Breastfeeding/lactating: Let your doctor know if you are breastfeeding or lactating.
  • Surgery: If you have any planned surgeries, it is important to inform your doctor about your use of Delanix 30mg Capsule.
  • Allergy: If you have any known allergies to the active or inactive ingredients in the capsule, make sure to communicate this to your doctor.
  • Osteoporosis or other bone-related diseases: Discuss with your doctor if you have osteoporosis or any other bone-related conditions, as medications in the class of Delanix 30mg Capsule can potentially increase the risk of fractures.
  • Magnesium deficiency or diuretic medication use: If you have a magnesium deficiency or are taking diuretic medications (which can lead to low blood magnesium levels), inform your doctor.
  • Liver disease and autoimmune disease: Inform your doctor if you have liver disease and/or autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency: If you have low levels of vitamin B12, discuss this with your doctor.
