Candirox Cream

Indications of Candirox 15

Tinea pedis, Tinea cruris, and Tinea corporis due to Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, and Microsporum canis, candidiasis (moniliasis) due to Candida albicans, and Tinea (pityriasis) versicolor due to Malassezia furfur. Ciclopirox Cream is indicated for the topical treatment Ciclopirox Cream is also effective against certain gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Ciclopirox Olamine alone is effective in treating mild to severe inflammatory fungal infections due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

Pharmacology

Ciclopirox Olamine is a broad-spectrum antifungal drug that stops pathogenic dermatophytes, yeasts, and Malassezia furfur from growing. In vitro, Ciclopirox Olamine inhibits the growth of Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis, and Candida albicans isolates. Ciclopirox Olamine's mode of action has primarily been investigated in Candida albicans. Ciclopirox Olamine-mediated growth inhibition or death of fungal cells is thought to be predominantly produced by in vitro cellular depletion of several critical substrates and/or ions, with such effects being induced by blocking their uptake from the medium.

Dosage & Administration

Ciclopirox Cream should be gently massaged onto the affected and surrounding skin areas twice daily for four weeks. Clinical improvement with relief of pruritus and other symptoms usually occurs within the first week of treatment. If a patient shows no clinical improvement after four weeks of treatment with Ciclopirox cream, the diagnosis should be redetermined. Patients with Tinea versicolor usually exhibit clinical and mycological clearing after two weeks of treatment.

Use in children: Safety and effectiveness in children below the age of 10 years have not been established.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Category B pregnancy. This medication is not known to be excreted in human milk. Ciclopirox Olamine cream or is administered to nursing women with caution because many medications are excreted in human milk.

Precautions & Warnings

Ciclopirox Olamine lotion is not intended for use on the eyes.
