✅ Description:
Folate is a water-soluble B vitamin that serves as a coenzyme in DNA and RNA synthesis and amino acid metabolism. During pregnancy, a deficiency can result in serious fetal abnormalities like neural tube defects (NTDs), including spina bifida and anencephaly. Adequate folate levels are essential to reduce risks of preterm birth, low birth weight, and intrauterine growth restriction. Supplementation, especially prior to conception and in early pregnancy, effectively reduces NTD recurrence.
- Not recommended for individuals with known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation.
- Generally well tolerated, but it's advisable to consult a physician before initiating therapy.
- Folate is safe during pregnancy and compatible with breastfeeding. Supplementation may be necessary in lactating mothers with inadequate dietary intake to prevent megaloblastic anemia.

- Concurrent use with amiodarone may heighten the risk of photosensitivity.
- Folate may also accelerate the breakdown of phenobarbital, reducing its effectiveness.

- Folate alone should not be used to treat pernicious anemia or other B12-deficient anemias, as it may mask hematologic symptoms while neurological damage progresses.
