How does Epnil 1mg Tablet work?

Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine. It works by increasing the action of a chemical messenger (GABA) which suppresses the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain.

• The addiction / habit-forming potential of this medicine is very high. Take it only as per the dose and duration advised by your doctor
• It may cause dizziness. Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you.
• Avoid consuming alcohol as it may increase dizziness and drowsiness.
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.
• Inform your doctor if you experience worsened anxiety, depression anger, or violent behavior and mania while taking this medicine.
• Do not stop taking medication suddenly without talking to your doctor as that may lead to nausea, anxiety, agitation, flu-like symptoms, sweating, tremors, and confusion.

Indication

Epnil 1mg is prescribed for the treatment of seizures, panic attacks, and anxiety disorders. It reduces abnormal nerve cell activity and has a calming effect on the brain.

Pharmacology:

• Mechanism: Clonazepam, a benzodiazepine, increases GABAergic neurotransmission, reducing nerve cell activity.
• Efficacy: Effective against various seizure types, including absence seizures. Also affects serotonin in animals.

Dosage & Administration of

• Adults: For seizure disorders, start with a dose of 1.5 mg/day, divided into three doses. Adjust the dosage in 0.5 to 1 mg increments every 3 days, as needed. The maximum daily dose is 20 mg. For panic disorder, begin with 0.25 mg twice a day and increase to 1 mg/day as needed.
• Pediatric Patients: The initial dose for children (up to 10 years or 30 kg body weight) should be 0.01 to 0.03 mg/kg/day, with a maximum of 0.05 mg/kg/day in divided doses.

Use in Children and the Elderly:

Exercise caution when administering Epnil 1mg Tablet to children and elderly patients, and consult your doctor before use.

Interaction

• Does not significantly affect the metabolism of phenytoin, carbamazepine, and phenobarbital.
• Interaction with other medications is not well-studied.

Contraindications:

• Avoid in patients with a severe allergy to benzodiazepines or significant liver infection.
• Exercise caution in open-angle glaucoma, but avoid severe narrow-angle glaucoma.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

• Risk of congenital malformations; use during pregnancy only if benefits outweigh risks.
• Administer during pregnancy with caution, especially in the last trimester or during labor.

Precautions & Warnings:

• Epnil 1mg may increase the incidence of generalized tonic-clonic seizures in patients with multiple seizure types.
• Caution When used with valproic acid; it can cause absent status.
