How to use Umactin BD 100

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Umactin BD 100 is to be taken with food.

How Umactin BD 100 works

Umactin BD 100 is an antibiotic. It works by killing the bacteria in the urine that causes infection.

What if you forget to take Umactin BD 100?

If you miss a dose of Umactin BD 100, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Quick Suggestions:

• Uncomplicated urinary tract infections are treated and prevented by Umactin BD 100.
• Even if you begin to feel better, take the medication as directed. Early suspension of Umactin BD 100 may cause the infection to recur and make treatment more difficult.
• To prevent the usual side effect of nausea, take Umactin BD 100 with meals.
• Your urine may have a dark yellow or brown color as a result. There is no need for concern because this is usual.
• Use  Umactin BD 100 just as directed by your doctor, neither longer nor more frequently.

Indications of Umactin BD 100

Colds, Flu, or any other viral diseases will not be treated by antibiotics like nitrofurantoin. Antibiotic overuse raises the likelihood that you'll get an illness later on that is resistant to antibiotic therapy. Infections in the urinary tract brought on by susceptible strains of E. coli, Enterococci, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, and specific susceptible Klebsiella and Enterobacter species are treated and prevented with nitrofurantoin.

Pharmacology

An antibacterial specialist with a focus on urinary tract infections is nitrofurantoin. Very soluble in urine, nitrofurantoin may provide the color brown to the fluid. Ribosomal proteins and other macromolecules produced by bacteria are inactivated or altered by nitrofurantoin. Escherichia coli, Citrobacter amalonaticus, Citrobacter diversus, Citrobacter freundii, Klebsiella oxytoca, and Klebsiella ozaena are examples of Gram-negative Aerobes.

Dosage & Administration of Umactin BD 100

Nitrofurantoin Capsule:

• Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) that are Acute and Uncomplicated: 50 mg four times a day for seven days.
• Suppression for a long time: 50–100 mg once daily.
• For three days following the operation and for the remainder of the prophylaxis, take 50 mg four times per day.

Nitrofurantoin SR Capsule:

• One 100 mg capsule every 12 hours for seven days for adults and children over the age of 12.
• Prophylaxis for genito-urinary surgery: one capsule twice daily on the day of the procedure and for the next three days.

Interaction

When taken with Nitrofurantoin, antacids containing Magnesium Trisilicate reduce the rate and extent of absorption of Uricosuric drugs like Probenecid and Sulfinpyrazone and can inhibit Nitrofurantoin secretion in the renal tubules.

Contraindications

Contraindications include anuria, oliguria, and significant impairment of renal function. This medication is contraindicated in pregnant women between the ages of 38 and 42 weeks, as well as during labor and delivery. Nitrofurantoin is also contraindicated in patients who have a history of hypersensitivity to the drug.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Birth Category B. Pregnant women do not possess any positive qualities that may be managed or satisfied. This tranquilizer should only be used during pregnancy if it is absolutely necessary.
• In the following amounts, nitrofurantoin has been found in human breast drain. A decision should be taken on whether to stop breastfeeding or to stop the sedative, taking into account the relevance of the drug to the mother, given the possibility of actual antagonistic reactions from Nitrofurantoin in nursing newborn infants under one month of age.

Precautions & Warnings

• If you have an allergy to nitrofurantoin, any other drugs, or any of the chemicals in nitrofurantoin capsules or suspension, let your doctor and pharmacist know right once (liquid). For a list of the ingredients, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
• Inform your doctor and pharmacist about all prescription and over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, dietary supplements, and herbal items that you are now taking or intend to use.
• Antacids containing magnesium, ciprofloxacin (Cipro), delafloxacin (Baxdela), levofloxacin (Levaquin), moxifloxacin, and probenecid should all be mentioned (Probalan, in Col-Probenecid). Your physician might need to adjust the dosage of your drugs or keep a close eye on you for adverse effects.
• Inform your physician if you have ever experienced renal illness, jaundice (a yellowing of the skin or eyes), or any other liver issues while using nitrofurantoin. Most likely, your doctor will advise against using nitrofurantoin.
• Inform your physician if you have or have ever had anemia, diabetes, lung issues, nerve damage, an electrolyte imbalance in your blood, low vitamin B levels, or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) insufficiency (an inherited blood disease).
• Inform your doctor if you are expecting, want to get pregnant, or are nursing a baby.
• Call your doctor if you become pregnant while taking nitrofurantoin. If nitrofurantoin is used in the final month of pregnancy, it may have negative effects on babies after birth. Nitrofurantoin must not be used.
• Nitrofurantoin should be stopped if acute, subacute, or chronic pulmonary reactions occur. When taking Nitrofurantoin, antacids containing magnesium trisilicate should be avoided.
