✔️ How to use Afrin (Oxymetazoline) 0.05 % Nasal Spray

• Use this medication as directed in the nose. It is typically used as needed every 10 to 12 hours, but no more than twice in a 24-hour period.
• Follow all product instructions or use as directed by your doctor.
• If you have any concerns, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
• Before using this medication, gently blow your nose.
• Close the nostril on the side not receiving the medication with your finger. Place the spray tip into the open nostril while keeping your head upright.
• As you breathe in through your nose, spray the medication into the open nostril.
• Sniff several times to ensure that the medication reaches deep into the nose.
• If necessary, repeat these steps for the other nostril.
• Avoid spraying the medication into your eyes or into the center of your nose (nasal septum).

Cleaning:

• The nasal spray should be cleaned at least once a week.
• Remove the dust cover.
• Gently pull off the nasal applicator.
• Wash the applicator and dust cover in warm water.
• After each use, rinse the spray tip with hot water or wipe it with a clean tissue. Avoid using additional heat.
• Certain that no water enters the container. After each use, replace the cap.
• Replace the dust cover and gently push the applicator back onto the top of the bottle.

✔️ How Afrin 0.05% works

Afrin 0.05% is a decongestant for the nose. It works by constricting the small blood vessels on the inside of the nose. This provides temporary relief from nasal congestion or stuffiness.

✔️ Side effects of Afrin 0.05% Nasal Drops

• Increased nasal discharge
• Dizziness
• Watery eyes
• Headache
• Nausea
• Dryness inside the nose

✔️ Quick Suggestions:

• It begins to work immediately, and each dose provides relief for up to 12 hours.
• The proper way to use the nasal spray: Avoid deep breathing because it causes medication to return to the throat, making it less effective.
• To avoid spreading germs, do not share the bottle with anyone else.
• If used for more than 3 or 4 days in a row, Afrin 0.05% can aggravate nasal congestion (called rebound congestion).

✔️ Pharmacology

Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic amine derived from imidazoline. It acts directly on -adrenoceptors but not on -adrenoceptors. When applied topically to the nasal mucosa, it causes rapid and long-lasting vasoconstriction of the arterioles, reducing blood flow and mucosal edema. As a result, the airway's effectiveness improves and the nasal sinuses drain more effectively.

✔️ Dosage and Administration of Afrin 0.05% Nasal Drops

Oxymetazoline Nasal Drops-

• Adults & children 6 years of age: 2-3 drops of 0.05% Nasal Drops in each nostril twice daily in the morning and evening.
• Children 2-5 years of age: 2-3 drops of 0.025% Nasal Drops in each nostril twice daily in the morning and evening

✔️ Interaction

Patients taking MAO inhibitors or those who have just stopped taking them should not use Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride Nasal Preparation.

✔️ Contraindications

Cardiovascular illness, hyperthyroidism, prostatic enlargement, angle closure glaucoma, and intolerance to any of the components are all contraindications.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Although the safety of Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride Nasal Spray during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been proven, it is not believed to pose a risk during these times.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Maintain a safe distance from the eyes.
• The spray should not be used for more than seven days without consulting a doctor.
• If used frequently or for an extended period of time, nasal congestion may reoccur or worsen.
• To avoid spreading germs, do not share the bottle with anyone else.

Protect from light and store below 30° C in a dry area. Do not freeze or refrigerate. Keep out of children's reach.
