Mirakof SR contains butamirate citrate, which acts centrally on the brain's cough center to suppress cough. It is a non-opioid, non-sedating agent with no chemical relation to opium alkaloids. After oral administration, it is rapidly and completely absorbed. The sustained-release formulation reaches peak plasma concentration in approximately 9 hours. It is highly protein-bound and has an elimination half-life of around 13 hours. Its active metabolites also contribute to its antitussive effect.

✅ Description:
Mirakof SR is indicated for the relief of dry, non-productive cough, which may occur following viral infections. It is also used for pre- and post-operative cough suppression, including in patients undergoing procedures such as bronchoscopy. Additionally, it is effective in managing severe cough of various causes, including whooping cough and cough associated with lower respiratory tract conditions such as tracheitis, laryngitis, and bronchitis.

✔️ Mirakof SR is generally well tolerated. However, rare side effects may include:
- Skin rash
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness (vertigo)
These usually resolve after dose reduction or discontinuation.
✔️ Dosage & Administration
Adults:
- Butamirate citrate 50 mg tablet: 2–3 tablets daily
Adolescents (>12 years):
- Butamirate citrate 50 mg tablet: 1–2 tablets daily/=

- Pregnancy: Avoid use during the first trimester. In later stages, it may be used cautiously if prescribed by a physician.
- Breastfeeding: Since data on excretion into breast milk is limited, the benefits should be weighed against potential risks.
