Description:

INSULIN Glargine is a modified, long-acting insulin akin to human insulin. It treats diabetes mellitus in individuals aged two and above, ensuring steady blood sugar control. Unlike short-acting insulins, it maintains consistent effects over 24 hours without peaks. This treatment prevents diabetes complications, excluding diabetic ketoacidosis.

INSULIN Glargine steadies blood sugar levels throughout the day, dosed based on tests, lifestyle, and prior insulin use. Injection site reactions like lumps or hypoglycemia symptoms, e.g., sweating, and anxiety, can occur but usually resolve naturally. Consult your doctor for persistent effects.

Avoid halting INSULIN Glargine without consulting your doctor, as it might cause withdrawal symptoms. It's not suitable for low blood glucose, kidney, liver, or heart issues, or with alcohol/recreational drugs. Combine it with a healthy diet, exercise, and weight maintenance as per your doctor's guidance.

Dosage & Administration of

Administer Lantus SoloStar Prefilled Pen 100IU/ml subcutaneously in the upper arm, thigh, or abdominal wall. Injection into the abdominal wall leads to faster absorption. Avoid intravenous (IV) administration or using insulin pumps, as IV use may cause severe hypoglycemia.

Adult Dose:

  • Subcutaneous injection for Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
  • Type 1 diabetes: Start with about one-third of daily insulin needs. The rest should be satisfied by short-acting insulin. Combine with short-acting or rapid-acting insulin.
  • Type 2 diabetes: Start with 10 units (or 0.2 units/kg) for those not using insulin.

  • <6 years: Safety and efficacy not established.

In case you miss a dose:

  • Missing a dose can result in high blood sugar levels, leading to symptoms like increased thirst, frequent urination, loss of appetite, drowsiness, and a fruity odor in breath.
  • If you remember a missed dose, take it as soon as possible.
  • If your next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose and stick to your regular dosing schedule.
  • Avoid taking a double dose to make up for the missed one, as this can cause a significant drop in blood glucose levels, which could be risky.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Administer SoloStar Prefilled Pen 100IU/ml only subcutaneously, beneath the skin, and avoid injecting it into veins or intravenously (IV). The preferred injection site is the abdomen (stomach), though you can also use the upper arm or thigh region.

Severe side effects of SoloStar Prefilled Pen 100IU/ml are rare, but in some cases, serious allergic reactions may occur. These reactions can result in symptoms like rash, itching all over the body, difficulty breathing, rapid heart rate, and low blood pressure. Seek immediate medical assistance if any of these symptoms arise. Additionally, severe hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is another potential side effect. Symptoms may include dizziness, sweating, confusion, headache, blurred vision, slurred speech, shakiness, rapid heartbeat, seizures, and loss of consciousness. Some individuals taking certain medications (such as TZDs or thiazolidinediones) may experience heart failure, even if they have no history of heart issues. If sudden weight gain and swelling of ankles or feet occur, consult your doctor promptly.

SoloStar Prefilled Pen 100IU/ml is administered just below the skin through subcutaneous injection. Your doctor will provide proper training on the correct technique and recommended injection sites (abdomen, thighs, arms, hips, or buttocks). It's crucial to vary the injection site within the chosen area for each dose. For instance, if the stomach is chosen, avoid injecting at the same spot every day. Instead, choose a location about 1cm away from the previous injection site. Alternating sides, like right one day and left the next, can also help prevent issues related to repeated injections in the same spot, such as lipodystrophy, pain, and irritation. After one to two weeks, switch to a different area of the body (e.g., from stomach to arms or thighs) as advised by your doctor. If you encounter any difficulties during injection, consult your doctor.
