Pharmacology

HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme that turns 3-hydroxy-3-methyl glutaryl coenzyme A into mevalonate, a precursor to cholesterol, is selectively and aggressively inhibited by rosuvastatin. Dosage & Administration

Adult:

Interactions

There are several noteworthy drug interactions with rosuvastatin.

• Cyclosporine and rosuvastatin together increase the sensitivity to rosuvastatin.
• Rosuvastatin should only be taken in doses of 5 milligrams once daily.
  Gemfibrozil should not be combined with.
• If taken simultaneously, the rosuvastatin dose should be decreased to 10 mg once daily.
• Rosuvastatin intake is increased when lopinavir and ritonavir or atazanavir and ritonavir are combined. 10 milligrams of rosuvastatin should be given once daily.
• Anticoagulant coumarins: The combo raises the globally standardized percentage. (INR). INR should be steady before starting Rosuvastatin.
• The INR should be monitored frequently when beginning or stopping Rosuvastatin therapy until it achieves a stable number.

Contraindications

Rosuvastatin should be avoided if you have any of the following conditions:
