The combination Entacyd PLUS Suspension comprises three active components: Aluminum hydroxide (an antacid), magnesium hydroxide (an antacid), and simethicone (an antiflatulent). Aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide function by neutralizing excessive stomach acid. Simethicone, on the other hand, operates by reducing the surface tension of gas bubbles within the digestive system. This action facilitates the expulsion of gas through belching or flatulence (passing gas) and helps to prevent the accumulation and formation of gas within the gastrointestinal tract.

Indication of Entacyd PLUS Suspension

Entacyd Plus is indicated for providing relief from hyperacidity associated with various conditions such as peptic ulcers, gastritis, peptic esophagitis, gastric hyperacidity, heartburn, sour stomach, and hiatus hernia. It is also effective in preventing stress ulceration and gastrointestinal bleeding. Additionally, it acts as an antiflatulent, helping to alleviate symptoms of gas, including post-operative gas pain. Entacyd Plus works by rapidly relieving acid-related pain, dispersing gastric foam, and facilitating the release of gas and air.

Pharmacology

This medication is a combination of non-systemic acid-neutralizing substances and an antiflatulent. It provides both reliability and extended relief. Aluminum Hydroxide and Magnesium Hydroxide work by neutralizing gastric acid secreted by the stomach's parietal cells, providing relief from ulcers. Simethicone, on the other hand, is employed for its antifoam properties. It spreads over the surface of watery substances, creating a low surface tension film that causes foam bubbles to collapse. Simethicone facilitates the merging and expulsion of gas bubbles surrounded by mucus in the gastrointestinal tract.

This medication is used to treat flatulence and meteorism, aiding in the elimination of gas, air, or foam from the gastrointestinal tract before radiography. It also helps relieve abdominal distension and dyspepsia.

Simethicone is considered physiologically inert; it does not appear to be absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and therefore does not interfere with gastric secretion or nutrient absorption. After oral administration, the drug is excreted unchanged in the feces.

Dosage & Administration of Entacyd PLUS Suspension

Take 1-2 teaspoonfuls 1-3 hours after a meal and at bedtime, or as directed by a physician.

Interaction

Entacyd Plus can interact with other oral drugs. It may either increase or decrease the rate and extent of absorption of concomitantly administered oral medications. For example, antacids can decrease the bioavailability of drugs like theophylline, tetracycline, quinolone antibiotics, isoniazid, ketoconazole, ethambutol, some antimuscarinic drugs, benzodiazepines, phenothiazines, ranitidine, indomethacin, nitrofurantoin, fluoride, phosphate, propranolol, atenolol, digoxins, and vitamins, among others. Conversely, antacids can increase the bioavailability of certain drugs like sulphonamides, levodopa, valproic acid, and enteric-coated aspirin.

Contraindications

Entacyd Plus should not be given to patients with renal failure or hypophosphatemia, or those who are severely debilitated. It is also contraindicated in cases of alkalosis and hypermagnesemia, especially when abdominal distention may be due to partial or complete intestinal obstruction. 

Pregnancy & Lactation

It is advised to avoid antacid preparations, including Entacyd Plus, during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Precautions & Warnings

Entacyd Plus should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease.
