Zesup is indicated in zinc deficiency and/or zinc losing conditions. Zesup deficiency can occur as a result of inadequate diet or malabsorption. Excessive loss of zinc can occur in trauma, burns, diarrhoea and protein losing conditions. A zinc supplement is given until clinical improvement occurs but it may need to be continued in severe malabsorption, metabolic disease or in zinc losing states. In acute kidney failure, zinc may accumulate in the body; dose adjustment may be required
40 mg of elemental Zinc, taken 1 to 3 times daily
20 ml (4 teaspoonfuls), taken 1 to 3 times daily
Infants (2 to 6 months):
10 mg Zinc, once daily for 10–14 days
Children (6 months to 5 years):
20 mg Zinc, once daily for 10–14 days
Other conditions (general pediatric use):
2 to 2.5 mg/kg/day, divided into multiple doses
Under 10 kg body weight:
10 mg Zinc, divided into 2 daily doses
10–30 kg body weight:
20 mg Zinc, divided 1–3 times daily
Over 30 kg body weight:
40 mg Zinc, divided 1–3 times daily
Children under 10 kg:
5 ml (1 teaspoonful), twice daily
Children 10–30 kg:
10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls), 1–3 times daily
Children over 30 kg:
20 ml (4 teaspoonfuls), 1–3 times daily
May interfere with the absorption of tetracyclines, quinolones, and penicillamine
Avoid simultaneous intake without medical advice
Known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation
Not established as safe during pregnancy
Zinc can cross the placenta and is found in breast milk—use under medical supervision
Store in a cool, dry place, away from heat and light
Keep out of reach of children
