Pharmacology

Perkinil (Procyclidine Hydrochloride) is a medication that belongs to the class of antimuscarinic antiparkinsonian agents. It has relatively low toxicity and is a synthetic tertiary amine. Its mechanism of action involves correcting the relative cholinergic excess that occurs in Parkinson's disease due to dopamine deficiency.

Perkinil is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and quickly disappears from the tissues. When given intravenously, it can take effect within 5 to 20 minutes and last for up to 4 hours.

Dosage & Administration of Perkinil 5mg Tablet

For adults, Perkinil 5mg Tablet is taken orally, preferably after meals. It is used to treat Parkinsonism and drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms. The initial dosage for Parkinsonism is 2.5 mg three times a day, which may be increased to 5 mg three times a day and occasionally 5 mg at bedtime. The dosage can be adjusted as tolerated or until the total daily dose reaches 20 to 30 mg divided into 3 to 4 doses. For drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms, the initial dosage is 2.5 mg three times a day, which can be increased by 2.5 mg per day as needed and tolerated. Injections can also be given, with a maximum of 20 mg daily.

However, the safety and effectiveness of Procyclidine Hydrochloride in children have not been established, and its use in this age group should only be considered after weighing the potential benefits against the possible risks.
